A lot of athletes go to Compound Pharmacy's (scientist/pharmacist for hire) and concoct a substance that give you a performance enhancement but don't give you a positive during the test because the chemical makeup is just a bit off.

They had substances called "the clear" which didn't get popped.

It makes sense to a pro athlete to invest a few thousands to uptain the substnace and potentially gain multi millions from a win.

In the end it's a business decision for some of the athletes.

Exactly! Who is more inclined to aggressively approach this? The cheaters who will reap larger cash prizes and potential notoriety and fame or the state athletic commission trying to keep the sports clean where the employees make pennies compared to the fighters.
