Not having Elite Fight IQ and learning fundamentals. Those things catch up to you when you age. You could get away with those things in your prime.

Flow fighter, not a gameplan or real time problem solver fighter.

Flow fighter - goes with the flow, does whatever he feels like in the moment. No gameplan, just go out and bang.

What I mean when I say he's not a gameplan or real time problem solver: He doesn't really have a formulated gameplan. He's not quick to pick up on patterns in a fight. If someone for example throws a right hand and they're left open after they throw it, He won't pick on it. He also won't pick up on his opponents timing him for certain shots, for example. Gaethje beat him with a jab that was unanswered for almost 5 rounds til gaethje got the TKO finish. Did nothing about the jab.

Tony was a tough fighter(you saw glimpses of it tonight and in the oliveira fight where he could have tapped), he wasn't a smart fighter, imo.

Still one of the best LW to ever do it though.

Z) The Jon Jones curse....Tony once called Jon out on a random twitter meltdown and even tweeted he would help Brock prepare for Jones. El Cucuy has fallen victim to the trash talking Jones curse.

-The Acl tear
-Getting old
-The Gay cheese beatdown
-His mental health
-Ditching his coaches
-His stubbornnes
-Didn't add new wrinkles to his game
-Relied to much on chin, cardio and gameness rathan than good fondamentals.

Imo post acl tear Tony loses to Conor,Khabib and Dustin so it's not a match making thing.

Lack of any fundamental base, now that he doesn't have the athleticism or vigor from the past , he needs a strong set of reliable skills to lean on.

He never learned legitimate striking defense, never learned how to box effectively, and now it's a steep fall down.

Your not going to be 29 forever, so you need to start learning real skills that'll help carry you along at an advanced age, every single pro fighter should know how to throw an effective jab to help setup their potential offense, but also to help win rounds and keep these young aggressive fighters off of you. You don't need to have the best head movement in the world, but learn how to adapt an elite jab into your arsenal before it's too late.

Dumbass training methods? Eddie Bravo said he would train three hours straight. He seems to be a guy who thinks that if he isn't hurting while training everyday, he doesn't do a good job training.

GSP trains three times a day, 30 minutes at a time. He also takes breaks in a week. Even pushing 40 he's healthy enough to make a run at a title (?).

c + age

His age obviously and Justin putting that beating on him.

The commentary pretty much nailed it. He has an unorthodox style that he's getting too old to win with. The real question is why didnt he get a title shot earlier in his career. Many have gotten a title shot with much less wins than Tony had in his prime.
