What Quarterbacks do you think have/had an unfair shake in NFL??

my mans Can Newton wasn’t dealt a terrible hand but the canthers did a pretty shitty job protecting him and giving him weapons. His arm is now shot and he’s dealt with tons of injuries. His prime was definitely cut short thanks to the franchises incompetence in regards to protecting their qb. Same goes for Andrew luck.
Watching that Super Bowl against Peyton was tough for me because I wanted Peyton to go out with a much deserved ring but I also wanted Newton to get his first ring.

Andrew Luck is another good candidate.

I was just thinking about how Tom Brady's career would've turned out if he got drafted to another team and buried on a depth chart. I like to think he'd get picked up but being a back-up on a team with a good/great QB that doesn't get injured too badly might have not afforded him the opportunity to show who he was. So in short, there was probably some luck with how his career turned out, which makes me think that on the flipside, there's probably some guys that could've been great that simply didn't have things shake out their way. Who comes to mind for you?
There's always luck, but Brady is the GOAT, and teams would have figured it out. It doesn't matter what team he played on. He would have been winning rings.

Cam Newton just got benched again in the middle of a game because he couldn't complete a pass or not get sacked for like a whole quarter. This was the 2015 MVP & Offensive Player of the Year; a 3x Pro-Bowler; an All-Rookie; someone who has been named to the NFL's Top 100 players 8 consecutive seasons, including last year.

Newton this year: QB record of 6-7 with a passer rating of 78.9; 181 yds/g and 0.38 TDs/g with a 1:2 TD to INT ratio.
42-yr-old Brady: QB record of 12-4 with a passer rating of 88.0; 254 yds/g and 1.50 TDs/g with a 3:1 TD to INT ratio.

Same team. Both playing in Beli's "system". Meanwhile even the stupendous Drew Bree's Saints are 8-0 in the past two seasons without him (one of those backup QBs now leading a 4-8 team).

Brady is magic.

Aaron Rodgers has carried the Packers his whole career. He would have 10 rings if he had a real team and coaches

Current or recent...

Ryan Tannehill: Once he got on a decent team he's been playing great.

Blake Bortles: Great QB. No one could have saved Jax at that point.

Tim Tebow: Say what you will about his wounded duck pass, personal beliefs, or him not jiving personally with other players.... When that guy was on the field, sometimes he would make magic happen.
Lmao @ Tebow and Bortles. Both were complete garbage.

Sam darnold with no talent on offense around him and about to be replaced by lawrence. Im sure hell get a chance to shine elsewhere eventually though
This x1000

Archie Manning #1

John Elway- one of the goats, but had an ultra conservative coach and would have to overcome shit old school game plans to win.

Anyone who played for Cleveland/Cincinnati in the last 28 years?

Kapernick got screwed. He was the 17th rated QB in the NFL on a team with perhaps the worst offense in the league and on it's third coach in three years. Got cut and blackballed.

Kaep was a garbage QB who regressed rather than progressed. Unlike superior hybrid QBs with legitimate pocket passer skillsets, such as Russell Wilson, he lacked the ability to continue succeeding in a league that adjusted to the read option. He didn't have any capability to see anyone but his first two options on any play, and his accuracy was as bad as anyone's in the league in his final years. He routinely missed receivers by 5+ yards.

Sure maybe he wasn't the best QB in the league but he still finished 17th in QB rating. He wasn't a world beater but there is no question he deserved another shot based on his play. He had the tools but lacked good coaching the last few years.

49ers had maybe the worst offense in the league and shitty coaching. Three coaches in three years and the last two were one year and fired. Even with this crappy team he finished 17th in QB rating.

There is no question he was blackballed.

Please. He was 1-11. He had the 26th worst completion percentage, the 23rd worst ANY/A, and had the fewest passing yards per game in the whole damn league. The only thing he did well was not throw interceptions, but that's irrelevant because he fumbled the ball so many times (9x in 12 games-- 6x of those turnovers). Running QBs are supposed to carry a higher QBR than QB Passer Rating, and yet he was 21st in QBR because he was such a butterfingers.

This thread is supposed to be about QBs who had bad teams or bad luck. Kaep had several great teams, and the league's distaste for him was solely by his own doing. He was a sub-par starting talent: a mediocre QB who accelerated his own washout.
There is no question he was blackballed.
Wrong. He made himself a toxic asset. The juice wasn't worth the squeeze. If he was a Top 10 talent someone would have chomped the bit. He wasn't good enough to justify how badly he poisoned the product.

Furthermore, he was given a shot to earn his way back into the league: his own damn showcase tryout. He spit in his potential employer's face by not showing up, and turning it into another media circus that brought bad press on them for the sin of accommodating him. Fuck him. He reaped what he sowed.

Phillip rivers on just about any other team is a multiple mvp and sb champ.

He was blackballed and the league apologized and gave him a financial settlement. Even the commissioner said the league was wrong.

He was 17th rated QB on a team with one of the worst offenses in the league and perhaps the worst receiving corp. The coach openly funded with the GM, ownership was/is a joke. On an absolutely crappy team he still managed to be 17th rated passer.

His play earned him another shot. Taking a knee during the national anthem cost him this. To me he got screwed because he has every right to take a knee and who gives a shit about the anthem. To some, perhaps you included, taking a knee triggered them so and got their panties all in a bunch. They blackballed the black dude. Lame.

Let's be honest Mick, he was only toxic to some white people. You may want to look deeply inside as to why his actions bothered you so much.

It's the virtual definition of an "unfair shake" as listed in the thread title. In fact the league admitted this and paid him out. Can you name another QB who was treated so badly by the league the league apologized and gave him a cash settlement?

Please spare me a lecture on what the "thread is supposed to be about".

Shut up.

It’s true but we don’t like to talk about it.

Good lord you're still white knighting this loser.

Goodell never said the league blackballed him, and pandering is par for the course with sports leagues. They only care about money-- always. He is playing both sides.

The QB is the most important single contributor to an offense. They were a terrible offense in 2016 because they had a terrible QB. Gabbert averaged just as many passing yards in his five starts that season (185 yds/g) as Colin, and he carried a higher win percentage. You keep whining about Colin's below-average QB rating that year in a thread about QBs who suffered bad luck. Oh, noes, what spectacular play we missed out on! We could have seen the continuing decline of the 17th best QB in the league!

That doesn't even make any sense, obviously, but FYI, his passer rating the previous season was 31st in the league, and worse than Gabbert's.

You're nourishing the grass with your tears over the "what would have been?" career of a Blaine Gabbert-level QB. Joust on.
