Do you think boxing in the sport will continue to improve

Does boxing have the potential to become a staple in the MMA community as a reaction to the few elite implementing it in their training

Id like to share my opinion on the term 'MMA Boxing', it is a justification for poor technique glorified headhunting a term regurgitated by the elitist

Not all styles of boxing can be used in MMA, but a jab is still a jab.

I think some adjustments are necessary depending on style, but I dont think its hard or impossible to do like MMA fans are making it sound to be.

Chris Lytle said himself, you have do adjust with a lower base, bending your knees a bit more a slightly more square, but he said it wasnt hard. MMA fans make it sound like you have to unlearn boxing and relearn from scratch

You don't throw punches the same way with 4 oz gloves and the modified stance...it annoys me when people say over and over again that "boxing for boxing= boxing for mma"...It DOESN'T..It is different. This also annoys me.... "Mayweather would destroy any mma guy in n mma fight if they just exchanged punches with him."

Hopkins destroys anyone in mma in a boxing match...but their is no guarantee that you give him 4 oz gloves change his stance up etc and he is still able to do so even if they only agree to trade punches...Hopkins may very well get out mma boxed if he had a punching only fight in mma( but Hopkins wasn't aware that the guy was only going to throw punches and not do anything else) boxing skill in boxing does not always equal boxing skill in mma...The much smaller gloves...modification of the stance, balance etc is completely different.

^^^I dont think its completely different, but yes Mayweather would probably break his hand if he tried to fight anyone with MMA gloves

And its just different in general...

People love to think its just this 100 percent carry over between the punching in the 2 sports and its not...A fighter isn't a better boxer because he outstruck someone with his hands in mma...He is a better MMA BOXER....theirs a significant difference.

And this goes for kickboxing compared to mma as well..Even the small 8 oz are not comparable to the 4 oz gloves....

Its different for everybody. Some boxers rely on glove size more than others. Some boxers will carry over to MMA better than others and not every body will have to change their stance and style, but the technique is still there. Just like boxing carry over to Muay Thai, you have to make some changes but you cant say its completely different

imo the boxer whose boxing carries over the most depends on how well he learns the other styles

I did some pad work tonight at boxing with a mates MMA gloves for shits and giggles, never again. After 2 rounds my hands felt like a mess. No wonder there's so many hand injuries.

That's like doing pad work with fight gloves and not bag or sparring gloves. Doesn't make too much sense.

You only mention one real modification, the stance which I happen to agree the rest of the techniques have been carried to MMA including the stance during exchanges

Whats this about Boxer vs MMA fighter, this discussion isnt touching that subject

Some people can pull it off with a side boxingish stance, most recently Eric Koch and even Gray Maynard. Like I said in the Zab Judah thread its not a right or wrong thing. If it really was a right or wrong thing we would only see 1 style of fighting in this world

okay I wasnt going to say anything but I feel obliged now.

So some of you honestly believe that an MMA fighter will be able to outbox a boxer if they switch to 4oz gloves? You think that professional boxers train their whole lives to rely on their gloves to win? There isnt an MMA fighter alive who could beat a seasoned pro boxer with just punches... even with 4oz gloves.

Kimbo is knocking fools out left and right.

It's not something I like to get into since MMA fans and fighters alike will make excuses for their poor use of boxing, which in reality don't stand. But one thing that is undeniable is that the hand speed of a boxer in 10oz gloves is blindingly quick compared to an MMA fighter in 4 oz gloves. MMA fans like to make fun of the slow fat heavyweights in boxing, without realising that even many of those fat guy are faster than a lot of lightweights in the UFC. When I see Silva's jab I just see it as something so slow and poorly launched that a seasoned boxer would eat it up.

Yeah you hear them worrying about how Boxing is transferred to MMA but not Wrestling when they have just as many obstacles as a Boxer

hell, lets let the mma guys throw elbows too, boxers still win in a purely stand up boxing match... always.

Like all the striking arts MMA boxing will continue to improve, MMA grappling is already world-class so the largest area for improvement by default is striking. Imagine most fighters will continue to focus on a more diverse skill-set than pure boxing, but hands remain the basis of striking and that's not likely to change.
