Perhaps this is better suited for the videogame/computer forum, but after years of wanting a Herman Miller or Steelcase office chair, I managed to get an off lease one (Steelcase Leap v2) for $199 (Normally retails for $1200 Canadian, $2000 when it first came out).

While 90% of people don't care about what they sit on, if you sit a desk for a living, investing in a high quality chair is paramount.

The chair is ugly as sin, but is so damn comfortable. I was debating between this and the HM Aeron (which the store also had), but I ended up choosing the Steelcase for the sheer amount of adjustment/customization.

So Mayberry, what chair do you sit on?

Just go through coi check ones that suit your budget, there are skinny people, fat people, tall people, small people and everything in between, you'll never or rarely get a suggestion that everyone agrees on. Me however I prefer non-leather ones, fabric are far more comfortable and I couldn't care less about padded arm rests since I don't sit in the proper posture anyway. Just try them out, you might end up finding out you hate soft, thick ones with lovely padded arm rests that holds you nice and snug. I prefer a hard seat with no padded arm rests. So yeah just go try some out and see which one you like best then scour the internet to find it at the best price.

I'll have to check the brand but I went with mesh rather than leather b/c if you get swamp ass you're going to have a bad time.

Hon Basyx mid back. Should have got high back or one of those mesh backs for more air circulation and cooling, but not sure if those have good armrests.

After spending a good bit of money on high end chairs for the home office, I've come to the conclusion that they're mostly wasted on me due to the way I sit when working from the office at home (like Yousuke Koiwai, the dad from the Yotsuba! comic):

So most of those ergo features on the high end chairs have little to no utility for me since I sit like I would on a cushion on a floor.

I do like arms on my chairs, but they need to float from the back and not be connected at the front. Like this chair would completely not work for me:

    While this one would:

The only other requirement I have is that the seat be breathable, either mesh or fabric. I fucking hate leather seats, including cars in cars (unless they're perforated and air conditioned).

For the office at work-work, where I'm required to wear pants and shoes and shit, I care a little more about the ergonomics but eventually I'll just use what whoever I'm working for gives me. Most of the time, I end up reclining on the office couch with a laptop anyway.

This thread reminds me of the scene from American Psycho where they compare business cards

I have a Humanscale Freedom. I like that the arms are adjustable (makes playing guitar on the chair easier) but I've been looking into the Leap; that'll be my next chair purchase. I've tried the Herman Miller mesh chair, and I didn't like the steel bar that ran across the bottom--cut off circulation to my legs.

Steelcase Leap chair, I hardly use it as I have a rising ergonomic desk so I just stand 90% of the time.

This in black. It may look a little goofy but they are intended for 8 hours+ sitting. It's comfortable, doesn't get sweaty and is well built.

Leather chairs are the devil and will eventually start peeling and tearing. This feels like sitting in a comfortable car seat.

i sit in a raynor ergohuman 40 hours a week. Pretty nice, solid, no low back pain.

At home i have a shitty leather office chair i dont even want to sit in.....but spending 40 hours a week in front of a computer makes me not want to look at one at home anyways

This is what I have in my home office. I don't particularly like it.

I can't identify what I use in my office at work. It's a piece of shit, but we're supposed to be getting new ones in 2016.

You and me both. Especially if I have to sit for a long time. It has always been my preferred sitting position. It's also kinda like L from Death Note, but he just has his legs pulled up. It keeps my legs from fidgeting and stuff, so maybe that's why. That and it'll probably contain more body heat. Those and you can more easily rest your elbow on your knee/leg.

i have a regular office chair. it's ergonomic, but i don't think it's anything special. luckily, i am not confined to my chair, and i'm usually moving around. or at least i can whenever i want.

I use a recliner, big screen tv, wireless keyboard and mouse.. Office chairs aren't meant for home use.

Funny I see this thread today as I am in the market for a new home desk chair now. We recently started doing WFH 1 day a week. That combined with me PC gaming, I decided on finally getting a good desk chair. Was thinking something along the lines of back and head support and height adjustments. Are there any good chairs under $200 with that criteria? Tried some chairs in office depot and the tall back chairs either pushed my head forward or left it hanging a bit backwards. And what are good places to shop for these chairs; both online and on site?
