What next if Adesanya beats Tavares?

I felt he shouldve got the "Conor" push. Fight a few cans for the first year (admittedly conor did fight Holloway early on)
Dont get me wrong im a big fan of Izzys but hopefully theyll see some sense after this fight. Slow down and give him safer fights. There are still biggish enough names out there that would be safer either cause they have lost their chins or stylistically match up better e.g. Machida, Jotko, Dan Kelly, Anderson(if he ever comes back)

I think this is the safe bet for the fight, but, if Adsenya can work on his wrestling and keep the fight standing and get a finish, it’d be a really big feather in his cap imo.

That's how the UFC tends to do it. Ortega & Whitaker winning big recently doesn't help. They do take it easy on Sage though, but he's also very young, while Israel is not and has tons of KB experience, so he'll get tougher fights sooner. Would love to see him vs Lyoto for the striking.

In one of his recent interviews Israel implied that he was offered a fight against Elias Theodorou, I feel like that would be a more appropriate opponent if he is going to be given an expedited path to the top. Tavares is going to be a tough fight for him stylistically but I don't see it as 'too much, too soon' though. It will either be a thrilling victory for Israel or another tedious decision for Brad.

If he beats Tavares in an impressive way with some highlight reel moments, maybe they'll put him up against a top5 guy coming from a loss.

But the Tavares-fight further exposes his bad ground game, I doubt they'd put him against a top5 guy yet - as guys like Weidman and Jacare would kill him on the ground.
