He did a big mistake by not taking the fight and pissing off Dana White. If you're not the champ and not an established draw then you do what the bald man says.
I see DW give Jeremy Stephens a TS if he KOs Aldo and leave Ortega in the lurch.
The last person you want to annoy is Dana White who was visibly enraged at the PC.

jeremy stephens brought up a interesting point on Ariel's show today for all the people who think it's a crime to criticize Ortega. if the situation was reversed do you think Max would've taken the short notice fight?

I think the answer is without a doubt. some fighters are made differently and Max (& many other fighters) has that quality T-city doesn't

if u go bye dana words max is out for a long time to get treatment so easy brian fights winner if aldo vs stephens.

would u fight someone on 24 hours notice.

I'm not criticising his decision to walk away, its his choice . I'm saying that Dana is a prick and will screw him over for rejecting the fight.

I think it was a smart move.

Too much risk, little reward.

Khabib had 3 opponent switches during fight week and didn't give a fuck.

Of course I wouldn't take a 24 hour late notice replacement but I'm a bitch ass beta so if Ortega is like me what does that make him? I watch the sport for real fighters not bitch ass betas like myself who duck for a living.

Ortega disappointed the fans and Dana by not taking the Stephens match up. The co-main that replaced Holloway-Ortega was a complete disaster but he's lucky that the main event was historic and ended in a knock out so people have forgotten about it.

Ortega disappointed me. Conor, Max and Frankie would have taken the late replacement fight so as to not disappoint the fans which is what a true champion would do. Frankie could have avoided the Ortega fight but he took the risk which gave Ortega an opportunity to fight for the belt. So now I'm rooting for Max to KO him next time they fight because of this incident and because Schaub is very close to him.

Ortega could/should have demanded that the replacement fight be for an interim title as a condition for taking the fight. Refusing to fight altogether, considering he is still a contender, cannot possibly look good to the fans or to Dana.

I don't necessarily think it's prickish of Dana. It was an opportunity for Ortega to do the company a solid, to "save" an event. Dana rewards guys who step up and do that, so be it if he punishes a guy for turning it down. Dana and company gifted him a shot against Edgar. Great way to repay him. I can officially throw his name in the list of fighters banned from using the expression, "I'll fight anybody, any time," because you just made a business decision and declined.

He was bitching on Ariel's show big time earlier, saying Dana wouldn't pay him anything even though he showed up, and that it was a business decision to refuse because he didn't want to lose his title shot....even though Dana actually offered him a replacement interim title fight and he never showed.

He’ll either face Max for the belt if he stays a FW or Max vacates and it’s Ortega vs whoever the UFC wants him to fight.

If that's true then he has no excuses. I mean he can do whatever he wants but the backlash is justified 100%.

He should have taken the fight consoderico how he became interim champ, don't know how Stephens would have made weight though

Conor never pulled out of a late notice fight.

Conor made UFC 180 million last year without even fighting, and the year before that he made them 50% of their PPV sales. What business did Ortega do for the UFC?
