What nationality contributed the most to the UFC's success

really only 2 answers that make sense (usa, brazil) and you could have an argument for either one

If it was a Japanese man's martial art named after himself, it more than likely would have been "Maeda jujutsu", as "jitsu" is a strange mistranslation by the Gracies.

"jitsu" is the Japanese word for "truth". "jutsu" is the Japanese word for "art".

Even the way most people pronounce "jitsu" is wrong by Japanese standards. It'd be "jee-ss", with a silent "t" and very little emphasis on the "u" sound.

That would be redundant, as you're essentially saying "Brazilian Gentle Gentle Way"...

The spelling wasn't my point. But you're obviously better in terms of the language. What would you rather BJJ's name be changed to. Something that makes sense, but also doesn't fall outside its proper lineage.

This. The Brazilians basically started it, and Royce's success completely changed the way people viewed martial arts and showed that submission defense (at least), was necessary to succeed in the upper levels of MMA. Of course, there have been many other great Brazilian fighters over the years as well, including some true icons.

With that said, if you look at the numbers, there is no question that the majority of top fighters over the years have been American.

USA. The UFC's an American promotion a large majority of the champs and a large plurality of the fighters have been Americans. Out of the era before the sport was mainstream Belfort was the only pioneering Brazilian otherwise all the big stars in the UFC which made it take off were American Tito, Chuck, Hughes, Couture.

Brazilians created the UFC, while Americans developed it. So both.

america. royce (brazil) obviously helped get it started but it was american fighters that kept it going and then helped it gain popularity. plus the company is ran by americans in america

In all seriousness this is what the "unofficial" stand up rule should be called. When the ref lets someone stand up and steps in between the fighters he should have to yell once they get to their feet "IF YOU'RE GONNA COME ON...COME ON!"

It is virtually impossible to decide between Brazilian and American. And trying to win a debate between Brazilian and American for the most important is a debate you just cannot win, so don't waste time trying.

well the original martial arts most used are from japan, greece, eastern europe and south east asia...

The Italians and it's not even close. No UFC with out the Fer titty brothers Lorenzo and Frank

Why don't we just go with both America and Brazil and call it a day?
