There wouldnt even be a UFC without the Gracies

And the Gracies wouldn't have developed BJJ without first learning Judo.

Japan wins.

I can drink to that.

Maeda's judo art was referred to as "Maeda Ju Jitsu" in Brazil. So the Gracie's adopted the name "Gracie Ju Jitsu". Which eventually became BJJ.... The whole thing is one big lie. They should give back the Jujitsu name. Change it to "Brazilian Ju Judo" which would meaning rougly "Brazilian Gentle Judo", which is apt.

If it was a Japanese man's martial art named after himself, it more than likely would have been "Maeda jujutsu", as "jitsu" is a strange mistranslation by the Gracies.

"jitsu" is the Japanese word for "truth". "jutsu" is the Japanese word for "art".

Even the way most people pronounce "jitsu" is wrong by Japanese standards. It'd be "jee-ss", with a silent "t" and very little emphasis on the "u" sound.

That would be redundant, as you're essentially saying "Brazilian Gentle Gentle Way"...
