I made a mistake with the metal genre, it should be metal/extreme metal. Basically all metal I suppose, so if that's your thing, vote for it.

I listen to all sorts of music. Anything from rock to reggae, hip hop to dance, electronic to hard house, jungle to drum and base, dubstep to grime, bassline to garage.

The only two genres of music I really have never been able to listen to is classical and heavy metal.

I would say my favourite has to be hip hop, and rock music at a real close second for me. I grew up with both these genres but it was hip hop when I was really young that completely changed my life. De La Souls early albums when I was around 11 or 12, and only my teenage years would I listen to hip hop and nothing else.

But my music taste has spread out since then, and I can listen to and enjoy a wide variety of music now, but hip hop will always be number one for me.

I tried to get in all of the popular genres, but obviously with only 10 options I had to leave out some.

    What say Sherdog?

Rock and Metal more than anything. Though I have on occasion had some minor facination with certain "techno/electronic" DJ's (mainly Van Buuren)

Heavy and Death Metal are very different (not to be an idiot)
I like thrash metal and don't really like heavy/death that much

LOL are they? I thought all metal sounded similar but then I'm very naive because I've never liked any of it. Never heard of thrash metal haha.

Had to go with "other." I used to fashion myself as a rock/metal guy, but have since realized I no longer belong to that club anymore. If I said rock, people envision some vapid garage rock band. If I said metal, people envision some brutal death metal. None of that applies to me. The reality is something more like this:

I put rock because I consider everything from the Stones to Little Richard to be rock. Though they could also be pop. And some of them could also be considered R&B. I would consider Little Richard and Stevie Wonder all 3 for example.

Rock, some metal, some punk, reggae, blues, old R&B, classical, world and some rap. I chose rock for the poll because that best describes the music I listen to most of the time.

    Metal's diverse
Even Death can be split into totally different subgenres

    Examples:
    I like Gothenberg/Melodic Death Metal but not pure-Death Metal/Grindcore
I like some Blackened thrash but can't listen to Black Metal
I like Bay Area Thrash but can't listen to Teutonic Thrash or Power Metal
I like Hardcore/Mathcore/Post-Metal (GUTG, Botch, DEP, ISIS) but am not a fan of Metalcore (Hatebreed - although Throwdown are okay)
I like Prog-Death (Opeth) but not a fan of prog-metal
I like avante-garde metal, with is similar to Jazz, but not so much djent

It's not just liking one band and not the other, it's elements that are manifest in each. So such specific genre restrictions i.e. Heavy/Death narrow it in a different way to just Metal vs Extreme Metal

    To keep it simple:
Death Metal is the stuff with growls.
    Heavy Metal has clean vocals.
Thrash tends to be chaotic with clean vocals.

I could never listen to death and thrash at first. I couldn't figure out the rhythm or what they were saying.

Okay got ya, thanks. I'll edit the top of the thread so there won't be hopefully too much confusion with the metal genre.

Classical. I can listen to Beethoven, Wagner, Mozart, Vivaldi, Sergei Prokofiev, for the rest of my life and never get bored. I like a bit of everything though, it's just I really love this specific genre much more overall.
