How would YOU call a guy "fit" ?

Is it his athletic ability, i.e. the distance he can run nonstop, the number of pushups & pullups he can do etc., physique, or the fact that he has no cholestrol/heart disease or other physical or psychological illnesses that are caused by a lack of physical work/excercise ?

And at what point would you label a person "fat" , or "unfit", "unhealthy" etc. ? What is the point of body fat, weight ratio, physical/mental illness that would make you say "he's unhealthy", or "fat" ?

Fit for me starts with being able to run few miles okay, a half day hike without dying, and able to crank out some pull ups. I'm not fit.

Well to me it's being able to run 3 miles nonstop, 10 pullups continuously, 35 pushups, 50 squats. Thats minmum requirement to be fit according to me lol.

I can run a sub 50 min 10k, sub 6 minute mile, do 20 pullups, 60 pushups, a 2 plate bench, 3 plate squat, 4 plate deadlift, and i constantly say i'm out of shape.

but i have higher standards for myself. realistically, if you can run 5k in ~30 minutes, you're in better shape than most people. hell if you can do 10 pushups you're in better shape than a lot of people.

Shit I can't do any of the above posters criteria. Guess I'm not fit
I can dunk at 34 though
If you can dunk that is now my criteria

unhealthy-rolls upon rolls. Out of breath real easily.

fit-can jog/light jog a good pace. Don't go out of breath too easily.

25% and up I suppose.

I'd say I'm at 15% but a little more lean. I pigged the fuck out this weekend though

so Nelson, Fedor, Mark Hunt and Cain are not fit? Its very inaccurate to judge from body fat %

This thread is entirely about generalizations. Most people who are fat aren't fit.

this confuses body appearance and fitness. a dude cutting water weight is all the difference between several of those pics. a guy like fedor looks doughy as shit, but he had cardio, strength, power and athleticism.

To be able to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Come on man Fedor was one of a kind, you left out his mental strength as well which was one of his biggest assets.

stop arguing about exceptions to the rule. Yeah fedor, mark hunt, etc are fat but you know they aren't unhealthy. It's possible to be overweight but healthy and its possible to be fit and unhealthy but the vast majority of fit people are healthy and the vast majority of fat people are unhealthy.

Being unhealthy imo is being about 30 pounds overweight or more. So your average joe who doesn't work out and is 5'9 has a lean body mass of 130ish, 15% bf would weigh 150. 15% is average bf, if that example got up to 180 lbs (without working out) he'd be unhealthy

being fit, I agree with the others. If you can run a few miles at a good pace, do at least 10 consecutive pull-ups, and do 50 pushups without stopping then you are fit. You don't have to have a muscular physique. If you have good cardio and can do simple bodyweight exercises you'll be more fit than most of America.

For men, probably around 20%, but for women, around 30%.

I guess beyond looks the criteria would be being able to do routine physical activities for your size/body type without being exhausted. It really varies based on size and gender...

when it comes to physic he wasn't.. Chagaev and Povetkin for example

In Russia its normal for men to get "pudgy" after 25 or something, it doesn't mean they are unhealthy, its genetics and thick bones. (am generalizing here since we all do :D)

Btw: what about strongman?

Imo its safe to say, as long as person trains and do the best he can, in most cases he is fit. Looks have nothing to do with it.

Yeah, but definition of fat doesn't come down to bodyfat %
