Why do people hate that movie so much?
Last jedi? Purple haired sjws, leia flying, the weird romance between the black stormtrooper guy and the Asian chick
Those are just minor gripes in comparison to the biggest complaints.
Fans have been waiting for 34 years to see Luke Skywalker's return to the big screen and he basically had a cameo in Ep7, but everyone expected him to have a major role in Ep8. Luke was the hopeful optimist in the trilogies we grew up watching, so in Ep8 when he was revealed to be a cowardly hermit that abandoned his friends, family, and entire galaxy to go die on an island planet.
Oh, and after refusing to kill his father, a mass murderer, in the original trilogy, he tries to kill his own nephew (son of his own sister and best friend) in his sleep because he was 'falling to the dark side.'
And the whole "Its time for the Jedi to end" was an extremely pessimistic and nihilistic point of view. So its better to abandon the galaxy to the Sith and First Order. Brilliant.
There's a reason why Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker's actor, couldn't keep quiet about his displeasure of that version of his iconic role referring to his role in Ep8 as "Jake Skywalker, that's not my Luke Skywalker."
Could go into Admiral Holdo (Purple-haired SJW lady) talking down to Poe, Cantobyte (casino planet), condescendingly obvious social issue preaching, and the whole Finn & Rose subplot being pointless bullshit. But that'd increase the length of this post a few more pages. Lets just say the hate for this movie is completely justified.
