In this day and age, why do guys even try and attempt to fight for a living? Unless you are a top 5 fighter, how do any of these guys even mange to support themselves. Only one guy can be champion and the rest are just stuck under the illusion that better things are coming when really all that is headed their way is bankruptcy and brain damage. So my question is, is it delusional to want to be a UFC fighter in this day and age and what is the upside?

Because its bad-ass,damn...

Advertising yourself as a UFC fighter really helps if you're trying to make some extra cash holding seminars.

Because they love it and want it more than anything else. It's like being an artist. Your chances of any sort of recognition are near zero but you do it because you can't live with yourself doing anything else. If you can be happy selling insurance, you should do that. I think most UFC fighters could not be happy doing anything else.

most of the guys would be street fighting and land in jail if they didn't have this outlet.

legal fighting is a need for some people.

I know Chuck said as much once

It is probably better than ever to be a MMA fighter. Not only is the UFC roster 500 plus, there is also health insurance.

I honestly don't think the rewards are biggest reasons. It's personal, based on character and experience.

I still pay to play men's league hockey and I do it for the excitement, improvement and most of all the comrade. I would imagine fighters feel similar. These guys want to be great fighters, want to test themselves, and make money doing it.
