This is borderline Mayberry Thread, but considering that finances, the economy, jobs etc are involved, I'm posting it here.

Ok Sherbros, share your personal experiences.

What is the most broke you have been?

As a gesture of good faith I'll go first.

in college I made the mistake of moving in with my GF. she lost her job shortly after and we were struggling to make ends meet. she finally gets another job and decides to spend the majority of her paycheck on clothes. Our rent was due the following week.

Long story short, we had to pinch every fu*king penny, and eat pasta and ragu sauce for 2 weeks straight. they shut off our electricity as well.

Ive lived paycheck to paycheck my whole life. Came from nothing, stayed with nothing.

I was 45K in CC debt due to having numerous girlfriends simultaneously, not getting the bonus I was expecting that year. Made some very poor financial decisions regarding my 401K that didn’t roll over when the company I work for was bought and ended up owing the IRS 35K in taxes. So in essence I was in the hole 80K. Financial stress sucks, not as bad as manipulating women and juggling multiple lives but it still sucks

When we first arrived in the US. It was me, my mom and my 3 sisters. My mom worked hard to provide for all of us. We lived in a small apartment in the ghetto and never took any government assistance whatsoever. No food stamps, welfare, section 8. We still managed, though. My mom even bought me a PlayStation just because the other kids had em and she didn't want me to feel out of place, even though she worked at Carl's Jr.

years ago i was homeless for about 2 months because of a couple poor life choices i made, living in my car that would have been repossessed had they found it since i had stopped making payments months previously. i was having to work at day labor places during that time. eventually, i got hired on by a company while doing that and things changed.

I've been lucky in life.

Grew up in an upper middle class family. Parents covered most of my college expenses. Worked in HS and College as a government contractor in Northern Va changing computer toner and cleaning mouse track balls making $15/hr (1988 - 1992) which was good money. Scored that through a girlfriend'd dad.

Married after college and moved overseas to teach where I was paid but did not have any real expenses. Returned to US for grad school where my wife and I were paid to attend which along with savings meant no debt. Landed a great job after graduation and it has been smooth sailing since. There was some luck (my good job allowed my wife to start her own business) and hard work involved but most importantly a super successful entrepreneur wife.

do you also have a 9 inch penis?

The one good thing about being irresponsible and living pay check to paycheck is racking up exactly 0 debt. No credit card bills, house notes, car payments. If I ever decide to become an adult I will get to start with a clean slate

I've had less than 2 dollars to my name after rent day many times.

Not anything to be proud of. Just had some hard times.

Overdrawn,17 months juggling 2 mortgages. One from a rental that was trashed by tenants who backed out of their lease. Seems very trivial in comparison to some others stories.

Broke as fuck for a good 7-8 months right after college. Used to go to the grocery store 2 days before getting paid and write a check at the grocery store for $20 over cause I knew it took 2 days for the money to come out and could have food and the 20 without getting dinged with overdraft fees. I also had my power turned of once during that time and didn't even pay them to have it turned back on for like 5 days. Kinda makes you appreciate it more when you do finally start making good money.

Grew up poor as fuck. My dad had a bad drinking problem and just wasn't around and my mother was from that era when women were still somewhat expected to be the homemaker. My mother worked a lot of terrible jobs and many, many hours to keep us fed.

As an adult, I couldn't find work around the turn of the century, right around the time Clinton extended unemployment bennies for deadbeats like me. I got by OK, didn't have a family of my own at the time.
