For Burns:
He fights against lower ranked fighter that won't give him title shot unlike a win over colby or rematch against khamzat.
And being star crasher isn't help enough to his fame if he doesn't have the mic skills to back it up. Even if they feed him mcgregor yeah it will make him more known but if he is boring so they just remember he beaten mcgregor and that's it. Also if he will win by very boring lay and pray like happened to Usman in his first Masvidal fight it will hurt his stock more than helping it.

For Masvidal:
It's almost certain easy win for Burns. At 38 years old Masvidal can't improve enough his grappling and even living for years with colby in the same house didn't helped him to not getting his ass whooped easily against him. And obviously his flying knee won't work again. Making your losing streak longer hurt your stock and star power to anyone. More casuals will understand he isn't a good fighter and will forget him.

For the UFC:
While they love that their fighters lose before retirement Masvidal have more fights on his contract and people buy tickets for stars not some unknown fighters (even if they don't want them to be too big stars) plus the betting odds favor Burns and he is very likely to win anyway.

For fans:
They will get super boring one sided fight while Burns vs Colby/Belal and Masvidal vs Holland would have made so much more sense and could even be FOTY

Sorry for bad English

Two top guys in the division facing eachother.

Masvidal wants to be an elite guy so if he wants to be viewed as that, he’ll have to beat somebody who is. Here’s his shot.

Burns is game to face anybody and this is a big fight. It’ll be exciting, have name value and we all want to see it. It’s not a particularly hard fight for a guy who wants to remain in the championship contention. Everybody else is booked and both want to stay active.

It makes sense. I don’t think it’s a major mismatch. Burns is a justifiable favorite for sure but people are acting as if it’s Chad Mendes vs Cody MacKenzie 2 or Diaz/Khamzat. It’s not. This is a competitive fight that will advance the division and we all want to see it.

The UFC likes Brazilian contenders.

Burns can only beat old welterweights, so they are feeding him Masvidal.

Masvidal is expensive and hasn't won a fight since Nate Diaz in 2019. Either beat Burns and justify your pay or get cut imo.

They might be about to accidentally Sam Alvey the fuck out of Jorge Masvidal.

He's not winning this fight, his contract prices him out of easy fights, and yet they won't want to release him either...

Masvidal sells PPVs and Burns and Chimaev are the only elite WWs Masvidal hasn't fought(and lost to).

That's the logic. They are going to pass around Masvidal to all the top WWs like a sorority girl.

Burns is getting himself a Kirkland Brand Red Panty Night.

Masvidal Colby was very competitive up until the very end. Not sure what fight you were watching.

I pretty much agree with you, but am actually pretty excited for the fight (and ya, probable Burns win). Burns deserves this "easy" but dangerous win. I'd rather see Burns get a lower ranked W or even 2 now before a TS, then get another beating and chose to retire.

<{katwhu}>

Burns can beat any WW in the world on any given night.

-Edged a decision against 35 yo past prime Kunchenko, who is 1-4 since.
-Gunnar Nelson should be a lightweight, can’t crack the top 15 at welterweight.
-Demian Maia, 40 yo, past prime and a perfect style matchup.
-Woodley, 37 yo, was finished after he lost the belt, can’t even beat Jake Paul.
-Wonderboy, 38 yo, considerably slower and at least 5 years past prime.
-Magny, 35 yo, journeyman, also past prime.

Burns lost to the only two under-35 yo welterweights he has ever fought.

Burns can’t even beat any LIGHTWEIGHT in the world on any given night (3 lightweight losses in the UFC, none of them even top contenders). His matchmaking at welterweight has been as favorable as possible. Why do you think Chimaev picked him?
