What is the general concensus among fighters regarding the Weidman/Silva 2 result?

A lot of us here are not fighters, but we offer our opinion regarding whether the win was legit or not. But what about fighters who obviously know more than we do. What do they have to say?

breaking your leg on a checked kick is something that does happen but it is still a freak occurrence. I think Weidman had some luck on his side for both fights

The consensus is that Bionic Silva looms. Also that Weidman was the better fighter in the rounds they fought.

Legit win no doubt. So was the first fight, despite what others might try to say/make you believe.

Anderson is one of my favorite fighters, but I was calling for Chris to win this. Big, strong, fast, aggressive wrestler with good/great sub defense, and KO power in his hands. That's a tall task for anyone to beat.

After Anderson got knocked down in round 1, I knew it was over for sure, despite my hopes that he would come back and win the fight. Chris is his kryptonite, and I still think Anderson could beat almost anyone else in the division not named Chris Weidman.

That being said, I hope he doesn't come back. I hope he decides to live out the rest of his life with his wife and children. He doesn't need to come back, he has nothing to prove, and he surely doesn't need the money.

Thanks for the memories Anderson.

Of course it was legit. Apparently a lot of people on this site don't know what "legit" or "legitimate" mean. TKO due to injury is a legit way to win. Was it the most clear and decisive way to win? No, but Weidman did what he needed to do to prove that he was the better fighter that night.

The win is absolutely legit. He was winning every aspect of that fight.

The injury is a freak occurrence though, IMO.

What really sucks is in both fights it seemed the fight was about to start turning in Silva's favor.

First fight Weidman started getting a bit too aggressive and was starting to get a bit wild with his strikes. I honestly think that backfist was more of a super sloppy out of position/stance jab than a backfist.

Second fight Silva looked like was gonna light his ass up and Weidman didn't look like he was ready to take it to the ground yet. Looked like he wanted to strike a bit before going back to the ground.

Silva needs a tune up fight or two if he comes back and seal the trilogy.

He wasn't winning every aspect, Anderson bloodied up Weidman from the bottom. However I do agree that Weidman had the better showing of what we saw.

It happens, man. Like in the Silva/Bonnar fight, I honestly thought it was about to turn in Stephen's favor until Silva kneed him in the torso.

This. He deserves credit for winning, and he deserves credit for checking the kick, but people are acting like he went into the mountains and trained to shatter people's legs by checking kicks. It wasn't an amazing finish; it was a tragic ending to the fight and probably Silva's career.

Weidman says he trained to hurt people with his knee when he checks his kicks... that's called checking a kick. He did nothing extra special other than successfully check the kick. It is the same as if I were to fire a pot shot into the woods, and a mile away a small bird dropped dead out of a tree. Of course I'm going to say I was aiming for it.

I think the consensus opinion is "Jesus fuck that looks like it hurt! Fucking ouch, man! #Nopejustnope #Noreallyfuckingow!"

Silva got KTFO in the first fight and was well on his way to getting KTFO in the second fight before his leg intervened.

Both are very legit wins.

I really don't see Anderson fans questioning the legitimacy of the win. People are just calling the finish a freak accident. These two concepts can coexist. The Silva haters are stuck on the notion that calling the finish a freak accident is the same as denying the legitimacy of the win.

If Silva had of tooled Weidman in round 1, and round 2 played out as it did, then the legitimacy of the win would come into question, but the way it played out Weidman is the legitimate winner, but the fight had an unfortunate ending.

That's like saying Silva had luck on his side front kicking Belfort to death. That also rarely happens. In fact, I've only seen two front kick KOs in MMA. I've seen 3 legs breaking on checked kicks.

"bloodied up". It was a miniscule cut from the edge of the glove moving across his skin. Weidman had hardly any damage on his face afterwards.
