If Nick stays retired and Nate never gets another shot, what is the legacy of these two? Nick was SF champ and number one contender, and Nate for a brief period got himself into contention. There was a (very) outside chance of two brothers holding gold for the first time in UFC history.

There was also a lot of hype, news print, threads, posts, musings, considerations and pixels devoted to these two emotive characters.

What in your opinion, is their legacy in MMA?

I think they'll be more remembered for their antics in AND out of the cage, along with their records against great wrestles in the UFC

I hope im wrong, theyre both great fighters. Fun to watch.

Their legacy is mad shit talking and always losing the most important fights of their careers. Exciting to watch without a doubt though.

Good, but not great fighters. Some of the most exciting fighters to watch though.

No matter what their legacy consists of, it will include proving to the world that stoners CAN.

The Mayhem stomping post Shields fight.

Flipping the bird and talking shit mid fight.

Their love of Stockton.

Mean mugging.

Oh, and being great, but not exceptional fighters.

+ weed

Diaz will always be remembered as:

I kind of see them both as pride fighters who arrived too late. Maybe thats wrong, but their total devotion to their own style and refusal to assimilate to the ufc cookie cutter template, make them seem quite jarring and anachronistic to the times.

People are still scared of "fighting" Nick Diaz, Nate never quite had that same aura but he did bring the pressure and intensity that his brother brought.

Nate Diaz is only 28, he has a lot of career left and is more proffessional than his brother. He also seems like he is more willing to work on his wrestling defense (see Jim Miller fight) so only time will tell Nate Diaz's legacy. They will both be known for their antics as well as putting on great fights and being willing to trade shots with the likes of Daley, Lawler, Gomi, Cerrone, Penn ect and win in exciting fashion as well as struggling against wrestlers.

Nate stuffed Josh a couple times too, and Nick Diaz stuffed GSP and Penn, both guys with decent takedowns. Condit couldn't stuff a single takedown from GSP putting it in perspective.

As two of the most exciting fighters in MMA. Successful, elite, polarizing,

Also a dominant long reigning champion that put on some of the most memorable fights in MMA (Nick)

The sad thing is I think if Nate would work on his movement and fight smarter he would be a force. They will be know for their antics in the cage and never being afraid to stand in there and trade with anyone they agreed to fight.

Well... CC also never held UFC gold or had any major success in MMA after PRIDE, but is almost always remembered fondly and as one of the greats, I suspect that the Diaz brothers will share a similar, if not the same fate.

They will be remembered in the same light as Tito and Tank.

If you go to pre-unified rules, the shamrock brothers each held gold.

Unless Nate does something amazing, he will be remember as the brother of nick who also fought.
