It was basically point fighting for 5 rounds until gus was in trouble late in the fourth. After that, more point fighting. I feel that because Jones finally faced actual adversity in a fight that people are making way too much of it. That and Joe Rogans usual over the top commentary

It was a good fight but it wasnt on the edge of my seat stuff until like the last 2 minutes of the fifth round. 90% of that fight was Gus using his movement to avoid the reach, takedowns and kicks of Jones and occasionally getting some punches in that were never gonna KO Jones (but were adding up) and Jones showing off his oblique (or whatever the fuck it's called) kicking technique. Late in the fourth and the fifth Gus got in a little trouble after doing well racking up points and apparently that is enough for many to call it the FOTY or even greatest fight ever, which is really pushing it.

From this year alone fights like Anderson/Weidman, Stann/Wand (altho there was nothing at stake in that fight) were way more entertaining and exciting to me because it was edge of your seat stuff from start to finish

It was a great fight because it was Back and forth and because nobody expected it to be this close and back and forth .

When (arguably) the greatest fighter in the world is getting beat up, it makes for some incredible drama.

TS does not understand 'point fighting'. He thinks it is the strategy of any fighter who throws a lot of punches and doesn't get a KO.

It was like Rocky man. It was perfect drama. The massive underdog brought it to the invincible champion and ALMOST pulled out the win. It was just like Rocky.

The reason it was suspenseful is because so much was at stake. Not only the belt but Jones legacy. It was a fight that if you were pulling for Gus you were constantly worried about the TD or Jones landing something big. If you were pulling for Jones you were probably in disbelief and praying he pulled it out.

Same thing with Machida/Shogun 1. It wasn't incredible action but it was a fight where every strike seemed to matter and you couldn't believe you were seeing someone get the better of Machida.

Lol at point fighting. On Sherdog, any shots that don't directly lead to or result in a knock out is point fighting. What a joke.

Gus wasn't supposed to put on a fight like that. It damn well was one of the better fights this year and for a title fight definitely one of the most competitive.

Stann-Wand was better, but last night was definetely better than AS-CW.

I expected Gus would beat Jones on the feet, but I didn't expect him to take him down and control him so easily early on with his strikes.

That wasn't point fighting, it was technical striking that obviously did heavy damage to both guys. Kind of like a higher-damage version of Machida/Shogun 1. It definitely wasn't a sloppy brawl though

It was a great fight. Not the best ever but one of the best in 2013. If you don

This....Point fighting ???? Gus' and Jones' faces disagree...This was one of the greatest LHW fight ever in my opinion. Incredible display of technique, heart and conditioning.

If nothing else, the big deal is the best fighter in the world was pushed and lost in some people's eyes. That has not happened to Jones yet. He has dominated everyone without doubt before now.

This was similar to when Chael almost beat Anderson the first time. It raised Chael's stock from Journeyman no one cared much about, to contender. Gus is a younger more heralded prospect, but not many were giving him a chance. People expected Jones to take him down and destroy him at some point.

Jones lost so many points that the ringside doctor wanted to stop it.

And both guys went to the hospital.

I enjoyed Weidman/Anderson but you're only favoring it because a fighter got KO'd. Some people would rather see a contentious war and it tends to be easier to rate that kind of fight as an all-time great. Gus and Jones also had far more damage done to each other in every round of this fight than occurred at any point in that one, Anderson just got hit by a punch he didn't see while in a really poor position.

This was a great technical fight between two young, incredibly-talented LHW fighters. What made it great, outside of the actual fighting (which itself was technical, measured, and exciting) was that no one but Gus's fans knew that he had the capability to neutralize Jones, and bring the fight to him, and not only defend takedowns but actually take Jones down. This fight proved that Jones is not only human, but that there is another great fighter on his level at LHW and his name is Alexander Gustafsson.

In terms of fighting, this was much more exciting than the action-packed, but sloppy Wand/Stann and Shogun/Hendo. This was two very talented guys following a gameplan and displayed all of the skills required to be a top martial artist.
