Not only do I have an oppositional view of Trump's politics but I have a personal beef with him.
I was scheduled to fight Ozzie "The Wizard" O'Neal on the Mike Tyson - Alex Stewart undercard hosted by Donald Trump on 12/8/90 but at the last minute, O'Neal was pulled from our fight in order for him to step in & fight Simon Brown on the same card. Leaving me without a fight that night. Which, under normal circumstances, I would have been paid half of my $600 purse. But, luckily, for me former world welterweight champion Mark Breland needed an opponent for another Trump-hosted event that afternoon at Trump's Taj Mahal. He was originally supposed to meet Mickey Rourke but the actor-turned-boxer pulled out for some reason or another so I fought Breland in a 4 round exhibition bout. Which Trump was responsible for paying me $1000 for but he stiffed me, claiming that it was up to Don King ( promoter of the Tyson fight ) to pay me since he'd brought me into town to fight. Which was utter nonsense as the Starfights event that I fought Breland on was Trump's deal, not King's. So, instead of my promised $1000 I had to settle for $300 from King. Which ruined my night as I'd been counting on that money to buy X-mas gifts for my girlfriend at the time ( it turned out that she didn't deserve them anyhow but that's a story for another day ). I did manage to pick up some extra cash by working a couple of corners on the undercard including, oddly enough, Ozzie O'Neal's. Though my presence didn't help him much as he was belted out in one round by Brown.
So, like many of the contractors & sub-contractors that Trump has stiffed out of their rightful wages over the years, I too paid the price for doing business with him.
