I personally think at this point he just needs to wait until UFC 200 plays out in July and face the winner of Aldo/Edgar. He tried to make the rematch with Nate as big as possible, and for whatever reason it's not happening. Best to move on and defend the title now.

Only two possible moves:
* reschedule with Nate (less likely)
* fight winner of Aldo/Edgar (likely)

Beyond these two options... anyone's guess.

Starvation to make 145 and defend his belt.

Whatever the UFC tells him is his next move.

Keep training, see how things play out, make a bazillion dollars either way in his next fight.

That's not how business relationships with independent contractors work, as proven by an empty chair.

Conor should break all ties with the UFC and sign with Bellator.

Since he's so good at promotion I am sure he can get 1,000,000 buys on Bellator just with his Twitter account, no promotional videos or press conferences needed.

I love how he plays the "Hes the bigger man" angle....but then he cuts more weight then anybody, and towers over his opponents at 145

Defend his belt, and I doubt we'll be hearing about this rematch again.

Until he finishes his current contract he will be doing all the press and media that the UFC tell him to do or he won't fight. As has been discussed at length in other threads he tried his power play and got smacked down. My humble opinion is that by the time he finishes his current contract he will have lost at least 2-3 more fights and will not be nearly the draw that he was.

I could see him sitting out 2016, maybe doing some movies, he will most certainly be looking to reestablish some leverage.

Holy fuck. The REASON is Conor backed out because he has a big yellow stripe running down his back.

And there is NO WAY he defends the FW belt. You seriously need to accept that fact asap. It will save you endless hours of butt hurt, and heartache in the future. Quite possibly expensive psychiatric bills down the road.

"I'm paid to fight not promote"

That's his two options , i expect Diaz 2 to be rescheduled .

I could be totally wrong though .I'm not part of Conor's inner circle , nor do i attend UFC board meetings , seemingly unlike some on here .

Agreed Petey. I'm aware that you're a strong advocate for both McGregor as a person and fighters' "rights", but even you have to admit that it would seem that he went a bit too far off reservation with his inconsistant public statements. He didn't do himself any favors. Even independent contractors are supposed to remain semi-collaborative with their employers.

become empty chair forever, or ghost of empty chair lol
