With the Main event of UFC 196 not only changed to a non title fight with Conor facing Nate Diaz, but also changed to a welterweight fight as well, what significance does this fight actually carry?

nate is not a true welter weight, so conor isn't fight a WW. he's fighting a light weight at welterweight

the fight is at welter weight because nate is out of shape and cannot cut to 155 on 12 days

it's hold no signifcance, this isn't a two weight class jump. if Conor was fighting rory or someshit, it would be. but he's fighting nate diaz. he chose nate over pettis/cerrone/khabib whom are all in shape.

    suprise

    Importance? Not a whole lot.

BUT - It's a DAMN FUN match-up, and a win for the fans in terms of entertainment imo.

It adds to conors legend to win another fight on short notice.

It's a LW fight without the weight cut. This is a pure stop-gap fight, designed to make the most money in the meantime while waiting for RDA and the rest of Conor's progression. The hype train has pulled into a station for this fight while the rails are being fixed for the journey ahead.

I would have thought Conor's name alone would sell. LOL.

EDIT... No significance to this fight in any way, shape, or form. But they'll try to sell us that it's special in some way.

Same as Anderson-Bonnar: fun fill-in fight, potential for 1/3 Chinese shoop material.

Regardless, I'm really excited because it's going to be so much fun to watch. And, if Nate wins, the fallout will be pretty entertaining.

If Conor wins, it adds to his legacy. If Nate wins, his legacy is born.

I don't get how everyone is saying that he has balls to go to 170 to fight nate and he jumped 2 division doing so and now they all have much respect for him. C'mon he was probably was close to 170 anyways and just have to gain some weight to make it. Conor probably realize that he wouldn't have to cut weight. This has no significance but when he beats nate, he's going to make a statement saying RDA is scared, and he's going to come take the WW belt after the LW belt bull crap like that. He'll probably wouldn't defend any of the belts and retire when he accomplish what he wants.

If Nate finishes Conor this fight has all the significance we need. It absolutely shows Conor isn't doing anything noteworthy at WW. Heck, considering Nate fights at 155 there's a deep implication LW may be too much for him. If Conor wins, he's just the killer fans already made him out to be. A loss says a lot more. We'll have to see how the bout plays out
