This year we celebrate the 35th Anniversary of Hulk Hogan beating the Iron Sheik for the WWF Title in Madison Square Garden 1/23/1984. Though many consider this the "birth" of Hulkamania, it had indeed been running wild Spoiler brother for quite a while, including Hulk's great run in the AWA. The story goes per Sheiky baby that Mr. Coach Verne Gagne offered him $100,000 to break that jabroni's leg. Verne, Greg and others have denied the claim of the bounty on the Hulk's leg, but Sheik has maintained his stance. The Sheik, being an honorable man, or more likely knowing the money he was making and would be for the foreseeable future, opted to do the job to the Hulkster. But. . .What if Sheiky Baby decided to break da jabroni's leg? There a few different initial scenarios in play: 1. Break Hulk's leg, retain the title and see what happens 2. Ditto, but jump to the AWA with the belt, legitimizing even more the AWA and Sheik 3. Break Hulk's leg, BUT drop the title anyways, putting Hulk on the shelf, crippling his breakout run Would the Sheik have even escaped the Garden alive that night? No doubt he was a legitimate shooter, but as Hacksaw once famously said, wrestling locker rooms in those days were "Like a snake pit of tough guys". On the card that night were names like Orndorff, Andre, The Samoans, etc. What say you? Assuming Sheik does the deed, where does he go from here? Would the AWA flatly deny their involvement?(surely) Does it diminish Hulk's run or simply delay it? Is wrestling less entertainment and more "wrestling" today, or was that always a foregone conclusion? Would VKM as per usual find a way to make chicken salad out of chicken shit?
