What if UFC Dallas was on FOX?? (Mcgoat vs Aldo, RR vs Cyroid, Fedor vs Werdum 2)

1) What would the ratings be like if UFC just completely STACKED a Fox card like that?
2) Would it bring UFC into the main stream?
3) Would it be the biggest MMA event ever?
4) How many viewers would it get? Could it break 10 million? 20 million??

 

It would do around 15 to 25 million viewers. I figure if one fight between Cain and JDS who in 2011 werent exactly huge stars did 8.8 million viewers a full card like this would do double to triple that. Maybe even more

 

Hipsters like me would dvr it and watch pride highlights on youtube

 

My thoughts exactly... and I guess what I am thinking here is: how many viewers does the Superbowl get in the US? 60million? If the UFC could get half that on FOX, wouldn't they make awesome money from selling commercial/advertisement spots AND be building their brand and bringing it to the mainstream finally? Would that be more beneficial than just 1.5million ppv buys and to remain a niche sport? I mean its a gamble but is it worth taking? I think it might be!

I'd bet there'd be 50 minutes of commercials for every hour of the event.

 

But if you DVR it, doesn't it still count towards the viewer rating? They probably monitor that sort of stuff.

Yes, there are different ratings
There is live (which gets the best ad revenues) & +3 which is how many DVR & watch in the next 3 days & those ad revenues are less due to FF

 

That's why they are doing the fox shows and fox cable channel shows to gain that mass audience. But they will never leave PPV for a few reasons and the main one is they are in complete control of the revenues card to card. If they were to sign a deal to show all their ppv caliber cards on Fox it would be a yearly deal and they would get the same amount per show, sort of how the fox deal is now. But with PPV they have more control in generating more revenue, say they want to do a mega show and they know that will bring a million buys. On Fox its the same amount regardless of the card, on PPV they can push the marketing and make the card more lucrative.

 

That would definitely be the biggest event they've ever put on, but they won't do it. I'm not sure they'd even put 2 of those fights on the same card. Dana is all about that money and he'd rather have 3 cards that do very well than 1 card that is amazing. Any one of those 3 fights would do really well on its own so they'll fill the rest of the card with TUFers and little guys ranked 10-20 just because they can and the fans will still buy it.

We have to remember that the top fighters wouldn't be crazy about it either since they get PPV percentages.

So unless Fox was going to pony up for the difference through their purses (millions), I just don't see fighters like Conor or Ronda agreeing to the deal.

They wouldn't pass up the PPV revenue to show something like this on Fox though. They get paid the same from Fox regardless who is on the cards due to the yearly contract.
