What if instead of 165, add 5 pounds to 135-155?

Another way they could do the weight classes is by adding 5 pounds to the lower weight classes. I think Dana and WME are worried about splitting up the talent between 155 and 170 if they had 165. 5 pounds would eliminate the 15 pound gap between 155 and 170 and it would relieve some of the weight cutting without drastically changing the rosters of the weight classes. It would also better setup superfights in an era where the UFC needs stars.

130 Flyweight ( If it sticks around?)
140 Bantamweight
150 Featherweight
160 Lightweight
170 Welterweight

The 15 pound and 20 pound jump wouldn't occur til 185 and 205 and they would be the same.

We know for the most part the typical walk around weights for the various weight classes. The last 5 pounds are the hardest part and are often the water portion of the cut. Its one thing to diet heavy for a few weeks, and its another thing to dehydrate your body of 5-10 pounds of water.

I don’t think adding more weight classes will help MMA at all. What would it solve? If you make a 150 weight class you’ll just have fighters cutting from 170, it solves nothing.

The only prople clamoring for new weight classes are those who can’t hacknit in the current ones. We don’t need to delire the talent.

165 is so stupid......just make a 163 lbs weight class....between 155 and 170

This way we don't add 165lbs when 170lbs is already a thing....or get rid of 170lbs, which has a lot of history.

175 and 165 just seem better because thats fewer changes

They need to go back to 2. 200+, everyone else. Jon will cut 5 lbs, and be the lightweight champ

Its not adding any weight classes. Its adding 5 pounds to the a few of the current weight classes. It makes bantamweight-welterweight all even 10 pound jumps. Its not enough weight to shake up weight classes too much. Khabib, Tony, Dustin, Conor, Cerrone, etc and all the elite LW would still be in the same weight class (160). 170 would not change.

It's a sensible breakdown.

Which guarantees it's never happening

If anything its a relief package for 135-155 pound fighters, who cut the most weight by percentage. It is also better for casuals fans to see 5 more pounds on the already "skinny" weight classes.

This! Why would they change all those classes when they would only really need to change one..

165 would be adding another weight class and 175 would be changing another.

You could add 5 pounds to 3 weight classes without having to add another division.

Why not move welter to 175?

Heavyweight: 265
Cruiserweight: 225
Light Heavyweight: 205
Middleweight: 190
Welterweight: 175
Junior Welterweight: 165
Lightweight: 155

Everything else stays the same below 155.

I think they just need to go to the height class. Start at 5'6 and under, and then increase every 1 1/2 to 2 inches until you get to 6'5+ or so. It would solve the weight cutting 100%.

225 is useless. LHW and HW barely have 50-60 fighters combined. Otherwise I could go along with your numbers.

HW and CW would end up being pretty thin. imo The log jam is at the lower weights..

Control weight cutting and add 225 division. Everyone wins

WW is the second most celebrated division historically behind LHW and it's glory days. Dismantling it would be disgraceful.

Lets just go back to the old system; light weight under 200 heavyweight over 200.
