What has Ngannou done that other HWs have not?

The hype train will continue to ride strong with this guy of course. Everyone has forgotten about the two fights he had where he was horribly exposed. But that's fine, obviously MMA fans have short memories.

But I ask you, besides finishing Curtis Blaydes, what has Ngannou done that other HWs have not, that brings him this feared reputation?

He knocked Alistar Overeem out cold. He knocked out Arlovski and JDS in the first rounds. Well, Stipe did those things too.

He knocked Cain out in the first round. Well, JDS did that too, and he did it back when Cain was in his prime.

Ngannou is a big, athletic man with very heavy hands, no question. He's a threat to any HW on any night, no question.

But you all know damn well that DC is just going to give him the Rumble treatment. If Stipe could out grapple him so effectively, imagine what DC will do.

Stipe is 6'4 and lean at 250lb. Very close to same size as Francis.

Ngannou is a terrible match up for every heavyweight. He isn't the easiest guy to take down. He defended several of Stipe's initial TDs against the cage and started unloading.

Stipe had to box with him for 3 full minutes and then time this first take down. DC usually goes for single legs so I feel like he might have a harder time getting Francis down. Plus he's a lot smaller than these guys. DC is like 5 foot 10 while Big Frank is around 6 foot 5. If DC boxes with Ngannou for 3 minutes he could get KO'd.

Because sherdoggers look at him and think that’s what the best HW should look like. So they cant put his good runs in proper perspective because they want it to so much be the decade long dominant champ that will KO everybody under a minute. That’s why Brawk got hype as well and they are always looking for that pushing the weight limit with solid muscle “new breed” HW because guys like Stipe and Daniel look like ordinary guys even though they’re far more talented than what their aesthetically ideal best HW ever is. Ngannou will win tons of fights and under the right circumstances he could get a turn with the belt...but his base is too flimsy for MMA to ever be dominant

If you don't believe he's the best HW at the moment, that's fine and reasonable. There are open questions about his cardio and grappling against the top two, and Jones if he moved up to HW.

If you don't recognize he has some unique talents/ability, you are being silly. His power and fight-ending abilities should be completely settled in everyone's mind at this point.

Well if you take in consideration that Stipe took shots that would KO any other guy and the fact Stipe's shots didnt seem to hurt ngannou much (those were good hard clean shots) and he really only gassed out that match i wouldnt say he got horribly exposed. He was never at risk for being knocked out that entire match, even though Stipe is well able to knock people out.
Now the Derek lewis match was total bs. Stipe messed ngannou up mentally and he was scared to throw anything. If he wouldve fought like he did before he fought stipe i have no doubt derek lewis wouldve been ko'd in the first round...
I fear hell be HW champion within like 2 or 3 fights and then ruin the division. Just a feeling i have.

Find me anyone who finished 2 ex champions in a row under 2 minutes. It's unreal. Carwin had the power but can't think of a single fighter of any weight that just puts out guys as fast as francis. He's on track to quick ko every fighter in the top 10. Conor wasn't even near as powerful.

Yeah totally agree, i hear a lot of people saying that wrestling is the key to beat him lol Well stipe didnt succeed at first and had to land some hard shots first before he could take ngannou down. He has an excellent takedown defence really.

Ngannou was green af going into that fight. There was no reason for him to go balls out and tire out in a 25 minute fight. On the flip side he fought too patiently against Lewis in a 3 rounder. Dude seems to have finally found his groove.
