What has Machida done in past fights to become favorite over Weidman

Is he the favorite now?
I thought the betting odds were tilted towards Chris.

he's a 1x UFC champion from a higher weightclass where he fought nothing but top competition after top competition. Weidman's rating rely heavily on his wins over Anderson Silva while Machida's rating include a wider spectrum of performances and wins. Machida also has not shown to be vulnerable to takedowns, which are a powerful tool for Weidman. His speed and unorthodox striking give Weidman no clear advantage in striking either.

Machida's hype is well-deserved. He's capped it off with 2 big wins at 185 against good competition.

yeah, i wouldn't insist he should be the favorite against weidman, but he's a tough opponent who does well against basically everyone.

Weed Man destroyed Anderson

twice.

people are banking on z Dragon.

Does it matter that much to you that people have the same prediction you do? It's hard to look good against Machida and I don't think Weidman has the footwork to beat him, but I could be wrong.

1. Avoid getting hit
2. Avoid getting taken down
3. KO Munoz
4. Grow a pornstache

this.

He has to fulfill the prophecy that the Oracle Rogan set forth in May of 2009

It's destiny

His perfomance against mousasi was awesome, He landed 3-4 signiture highlight reel moves per round. For Machida that is a lot. Plus he is the Machida, he beat many unbeaten fighters.

Hopefully Weidman knocks his block off. I cannot stand Machidas style.

The question is straightforward. Weidman has not lost a single round against Anderson Silva. Machida squeeeeeaked by Mousasi and spent most of the fight moving bqackward. How can Sherdoggers be so loyal to one fighter that even when he underperforms (such as against Phil and Gegard) they desperately cling to the belief that their favorite will finally put on an exciting performance that will redeem the past mistakes. I fully understand liking who you like, and wanting that person to win, but to make predictions like (Machida will tko Weidman) when there is no evidence that such a thing would or could happen....Please help me understand the nuthuggery!

-Weidman's only fought against Anderson Silva a total of 2.5 +/- rounds. Weidman may have had the upper hand throughout those rounds, but so did Chael Sonnen when he fought The Spider.

-Machida squeaks by many of his fights...we should all be accustomed to it by now. He also has some brutal KO's under his belt. Not everyone can be like Wandy!

-If you "fully understand" fans liking who they like, why do you struggle with the concept of folks making such predictions?

-No evidence? Please refer to my second statement.

Obviously his takedown defense. And then presumably much better striking than Weidman. And always the fact that Machida performs very well against 205ers.
Agreed. I do think Weidman's striking is underrated though.

No can defend.
