Why Wand did so poorly? He has great wins but he lost most of the matches...

He was 4-4 in his last 8 Pride fights (dating back to 2004) before joining the UFC. He was also knocked out viciously 2 times in a row before entering the UFC. He was already sliding. He basically remained a .500 after joining.

Also...most of his UFC losses weren't bad except the Leben one.

Many (including me) thought he won the 1st Franklin fight
He came as close as you could to finishing Franklin in the rematch but lost the decision
He lost a close fight to Chuck.
He lost to Rampage after beating him twice

He had some nice wins along the way including a win over Bisping and Stann but was clearly past it.

He couldn't juice as much and he already had an incredible amount of wear and tear on his body by the time he made it to the ufc.

He was old and his body was destroyed.
Also insert comment about PRIDE contracts and US testing.

I think Wand was past his prime after the second fight with Crocop. He never looked as beastly in the UFC as he did in Pride

The ref wasn't wearing an earpiece

jk i love u Wand

The rule set in the UFC hurt Wanderlei a lot. I don't think he lost a fight under full pride rules.

Wanderlei holds a win over the current MW champ of the world, though.

Wandy is still one of the GOATs. His ufc run was poor, but that won't tarnish the ass whooping he gave in his career..

The moment when he knocked Bisping down and almost kicked his head in the rafters was gold.

1 he was past his prime
2 he had to pass roid tests
3 he still beat bisping

Wand has been a savage, he ravaged Pride rooster and let a trail of blood, I really liked the way he threw himself with total abandon into fights.

But let's say the truth, his style was not a style, in his hayday he was throwing haymakers going for the fences and .... mmmh ... he showed some symptoms of ... lets say "hyperactivity" (to put it mildly, just have a look at his look before fights, scary) and "muscle enhancement" (veins bulging from his back) Godzilla like.

Outside the ring he is a very nice and accessible guy, whose notoriety never got the better of him, very much your next door guy.

He was a cash cow, and got milked to the extreme, the one cashing (the most?) wasn't the one getting punched (as usual).

Styles evolved, the guy got past his prime and regulation made him jump from a back window in front of a testing team who came to collect some bodily fluids.

Things ended adding up.

He marked an epic epoch, an epoch gone forever.

R.I.P

.....what? He was knocked out cold twice in the UFC. LOL at "Pride rules."

No offense intended toward Silva; merely toward your absurd post.

Wand was already almost done when he entered the UFC. His fight with Liddell was his true last hoorah IMO. His war with Stann came out of nowhere and I'm glad I watched it live. I was more disappointed in Cung Le than I was happy that Wand was "back" after a vicious TKO win.

Forever WAR Wanderlei

He couldn't breathe properly did you hear him speak?

Also he thought UFC was a gay porn organisation. Hence he wanted to " fuck chuck" but he learned quickly this was a fight show.

Yeah..he sounded like a raspy Vader later in his career. I am a fan but it was kind of disturbing.

The non trolling answer is he was out of his prime, like most of the pride fighters were when they came over. For some reason there's this expectation that every single Pride guy that came over should have had a long dominant run. Most of them were already veterans of a ton of wars by the time they came over. These guys were from the same generation as:

Matt Hughes
Tim Sylvia
Chuck Liddell
Rich Franklin
Randy Couture
Tito Ortiz

How did most of those guys do after 2007? Not well, yet somehow Pride guys are held to a different standard. Nog captured the interim HW belt after coming over, even though he was already starting to slow down a lot ( should have been the actual hw belt as well) Crocop didn't do that well sure, but he'd already had a long mma and kickboxing career. People point to the 2006 GP as proof he was still in his prime, but he had a really easy bracket to win the gp. Mirko had a combined 50 fights between mma and kickboxing by the time he came to the ufc.

Shogun had the numerous knee surgeries, which are a killer in any athletic career. He still managed to get all the way to the LHW title, even if he couldn't hold it. As mentioned Wand as coming off back to back ko losses when he entered the ufc, and it was noticeable among fans and other fighters that he wasn't the same guy anymore. Still got some big wins in the ufc.
