Few years back many people talked about how Aldo cuts too much weight and too big for FW. They believed Aldo is best FW and LW fighter and he was supposed to take that LW belt. Now all of sudden he's a small FW.

He missed his chance to move up and make waves. There's a danger that if he goes up to LW now it'll be less notable and maybe he wont get an immediate title shot like Conor did. If he's smart he'll get the FW belt back and then think about the move. I think the 'too big for FW' was partly posturing and perhaps trying to generate the hype that Conor has now got moving up.

He lost in the weight class.

If he makes weight he is the right size; if he misses weight like Anthony Johnson used to; he is too big.

Aldo is 5'7", and not a particularly big build. On the night he and Barao fought on the same card Aldo weighed 161. The guy isn't even a big FW, he was just bad at cutting weight. The only guy hes ever really dwarfed was Edgar. Aldo would of won plenty of fights at 155, but he'd of been dwarfed in every one of them.

When it really counted against high level opponents the weight cut seemed to be non of a problem for him. (Mendes II, Edgar)
