A major theme among internet progbots and normie democrats over the 2010's was that it was a very good thing that America was entering in their view a "Post-Imperial" phase in which it's edicts, while still carrying weight would not represent actual Hegemony. This popular view was primarily represented in Fareed Zakaria's very sucessful book "The Post-American World."

Now that Trump has seemingly been elected to make their vision come true, they constantly complain about our situation on the international stage? What happened? Why Isn't the "Rise of the Rest" so desirable anymore?

did Fareed's book claim this was a good thing? i was under the impression that it was sort of neutral.

i think most dems complain that trump makes us look foolish to other nations, and he pisses off allies while palling around with dictators. F'ing up the iran deal, which is a bad deal, but still better than no deal.

Yeah, Trump started the "Post-Imperial" age by going Sword Dancing with the Saudis.

Maybe we wanted to enter an age of partnership and cooperation in a multi-polar world.

We didn't want to enter an age of isolated alienation with a bi-polar twitter troll (er, "highly stable genius," pardon me).

I don't see how that happens without the U.S. Superpower playing a decreased leadership role. I don't think we're ever going to get that exactly in any case. Rather the rise of the rest will lead to a "Great Game" where regional powers such as Iran, Turkey, Russia, Saudi Arabia, etc struggle for control within their own spheres of influence and often draw the lines in the sand based patronage from great powers such as the U.S. and China.

Take it from us it is a good thing , running the world is a pain up the arse and never a word of thanks from anyone .

Maybe, Trump won, in part, because 46% of the population doesn't trust the liberals' attempts to broker such a world.

If you are a Democrat and your idea of "post-imperial" is the largest imperial power in the world demanding political and economic subservience of all other nations and "America first," then you're a moron who doesn't understand that imperialism has been primarily economic and nonmilitary for at least a century.

I mean, how in the fuck could you possibly fathom that Trump is "Post-American"? He's debatably ethnonationalist and purportedly anti-globalist.

I didn't say Trump was, but the aggregate effect of his presidency is others looking for internal stability rather than just nodding to the pax americana.

The whole world is not the U.S.

Foreign policy was the one area where I thought Trump might be able to make some positive changes. I haven't been all that happy with what he's done so far but I guess he still has another three years.

His premise was it wasn't because America is in decline but because a bunch of developing countries are advancing to where we are. "Rise of the rest" was another saying he gave to it. That book is fairly optimistic about America and the rest of the world in general.

Probably because of his bold rhetoric and the fact that countless media outlets viewed him negatively prior to the election and even to this day.

I'm even sort of surprised at how low his approval rating has consistently been.

Wall shoulda been top priority, not posturing with North Korea.

If you think trump won because 46% of all Americans voted for him then you need to take your head outta your bum

Pax Americana is hopefully coming to an end. I hope Trump comes good on his America-first platform.

It's time to stop interfering in other country's business, no more aid.
