I had to roll with a guy 300lbs last night and I am 165. I was just barely able to get my toes locked together. I was wondering if there are any exercises or stretches I could do to help me get my legs around him a little better. I also normally have a problem with snake my legs up or using rubber guard. So anything to help with that would be great too. Thanks guys!

Play open guard, spider guard, octopus guard and half guard. If you can't do something on a bigger guy, don't try, use other options.

I am very new to BJJ, but I am in the same situation at class fairly often. I am 5'8" @ 205 and I tend to end up rolling with one kid who is a little taller then me, and 290. Usualy full guard never lasts, unless I can lock my legs up a little higher... I almost have to get myself up to my shoulders, which can be a bad thing (makes it easier for them to stack you). but if I can get myself up to his chest, just above his belly, I can hold on a little longer.

Other then that, just what everyone else metioned.. switch your guard...

Stop using the closed guard on a guy that you can only get toes together on.

As a big guy, I have a lot of trouble with people who play a half butterfly / half guard combo, strickly half guard, open or full butterfly guard.

If you only have your toes holding my whole body in place forget it, I will posture up, break the legs and do a knee over the downed leg pass or a shin over your knee pass. Either way, I will pass if only your toes are controlling my body.

I'm big though and jump to a closed guard to give guys chance. Sometimes people play spider guard and give me trouble but the rest noted above are better.

yea the butterfly/half guard to full butterfly to open guard thats really all I was able to do. I was just wondering if there was any stretches I could do to help with the closed.

beleive it or not, i actually like to get under big guys and use a butterfly-x guard sort of game. you can really destroy someone's base with x-guard. i feel more crushed/pressured in a closed guard.

don't go half guard....

If he can get sweeps or take the back from half guard it's a lot better than being under a big guy.

Yeah i weigh 320 and no one even tries to use closed guard on me, I actually have more trouble with open guard than anything.

i've had to roll guys that are 300lbs. if he is in my gaurd i pull him in close arm drag then try and get to his back. sometimes it works sometimesit doesn't.

play open guard.. You will lose position alot at first but eventually it become as comfortable as your closed guard. It has to happen one day.. if you take the leap early. Youll have the advantage of developing a good open guard while most blue/purple belts are still nervous whent hey open up.

I'd get him to run a lot of windsprints, and maybe take up marathon running until his weight dropped to about 220 pounds :)

Get him on his back and play a top game

I love you man now I know I am not the biggest man on sherdog. I felt horrible at my latest competition because i hadn't trained for a month and was at 133kilos atthe weight in. Then there comes a dude who has 30 kilos on me and I felt petite again (:

open gaurds and other variations of open gaurds would suit you better for 300pounders

Well I'll try to roll with him tomorrow hopefully he will be in class. I like the idea of getting comfy in open guard. I still can't get over all the sweat that drips of his face onto mine. I actually got some in my mouth last time.
