well let's clear a few things up.
#1 it is not japanese. It is the japanese pronunciation of han chinese characters. Han characters are used in China/Japan/Korea/Vietnam(and surrounding countries)/Taiwan.

"術" is used in many contexts such as (translations may not be spot on):

技術 : technique/skill

藝術: art

手術: surgery

學術: education
 
For one thing, it does not mean "ground fighting".
