Everyone knows there is a long tradition of martial artists with acting skills What do you think?

Better punches? Better blocking in fight scenes? High kicks? Flips? Parkour skills?

I’m not convinced a martial arts background actually adds anything beyond high kicking skills (drills not just flexibility), along with flipping and urban parkour skills.

Unless that actor is famous and helps with promotion.

But at a practical functional level I don’t see how sparring etc. Helps much, you might as well hire a circus performer or a better actor.

What do you think?

I'm an actor. I also do martial arts.

There are several benefits. Physical fitness, coordination, a real sense of control of my body. If you ever need to do a fight scene, you'll have a better chance at making it seem real. Plus there's a weird similarity in the connection you feel while in an acting scene and when your sparring (particularly in bjj). It's hard to describe, but the similarity I guess is that your working together with someone, using practiced movements and processes, but always prepared to improvise when necessary. Although generally, speaking, sparring is far more improvised than acting.

Ultimately though, the benefits are only really there at a higher level and will only help if you have the acting skills already. There are elements of the practices that transfer, but there's not a lot of real, practical crossover.

I mean, obviously, you'll never become a great actor by purely training martial arts, and vice versa.

Pure guess is it teaches discipline, respect, so they don't no show or show up late for shoots like Lilo was notorious for.

Seems pretty obvious that they would be able to choreograph fight scenes more easily than the untrained casual masses.

Just look at how shitty the Bane v Batman fight was. I think Bane punched Batman’s thigh during the fight

An actor with no training experience is going to look like a retarded trying to choreograph fight scenes

Fight scenes look way better.

Jackie Chan and jet li fight scenes are a work of art. Now compare those to someone like William Shatner.
