They generally have to be thin, too.
I'm totally down with thick/chubby girls, but they just can't pull off the short hair look.

100% spot on. All the girlfriends I had with short hair were super skinny. Also girls with brothers have to keep the long hair, otherwise they look like their brothers. Done.
