I consider myself a hardcore but I dont know much about this man.

Who can fill me in?

What are your predictions in him vs Michael Johnson?

I mostly just know if from the fight with Dariush and I really don't remember much of that one. I remember Moises went for the same guillotine three rounds in a row. Dariush was too sharp and wriggled free each time and took advantage of being on top. That loss doesn't look so bad now that Dariush has four wins in a row and is one or two big W's from being in title contention.

Those guillotine attempts represented major repeated errors in his tactics. Similar to Woodley going for the same choked against Usman. In both cases it seemed very forced and low percentage. I'd chalk it up to inexperience rather than lack of knowledge. Moises has some pretty solid credentials in BJJ.

As for how the fight goes? Probably Moises at this stage. Johnson has looked so feeble since he went down to 145. He lost his last fight, right? Johnson of a few years ago would have tortured Moises though

Johnson has not looked his best recently.

Lost his last 2, and 5 out of the last 7.

Thinking about it Woodley loves low chance of success choke attempts. He had Wonderboy on the ropes in the first fight and instead of finishing him with punches went for the guillotine and let him recover

Moises is solid, but I think he's the kind of guy top level guys should be beating. Ismagulov didn't have too much trouble with him.

He's never been finished in his career, so if Johnson doesn't knock him out quickly, the fight could come down to Johnson's mentality, if he checks out mentally and throws it away like he did against Stevie Ray he will probably lose, but if he performs to anything like his potential he should win.

Interesting take.

Appreciate the comment.

Moises has all the tools to be great he's strong, great grappling and powerful strikes, yet he doesnt seem like a fighter at heart to me like the Dariush fight and Ismagulov were pretty one sided which you really dont wanna see on a prospect he had a previous loss were he also got dominated by getting pressed againt the fence the entire fight, like real potential guys would at least put on a fight not just take the losses like that.
This feels like a fight that is gonna go like MJ's last fights vs Fili, Ray and Emmet before the KO a close decision at range
Moises could win decisively if he pressured but he doesnt like to get hit so i gotta take the more experienced guy, its a coinflip cuz its not like MJ is out there dominating anyone his fight with Lobov was close too.

Lots of views few responses.
I’m on here a lot and watch almost every single fight out on. And even I was like:

Came in hoping to learn

Haven't seen much of him, I suspect Johnson either cruises to a UD or KO's him with a counter hook. Hope Moises wins though, Johnson does my head in.

Alright. Ive looked into him myself for a few hours and found this:

12-4 overall.
Hes 1-2 in the UFC.

Beat Kurt Holobaugh, who is 0-3 in the UFC
Lost to Beneil Dariush who most dudes on here should be familiar with. As @SamuraiJack pointed out, Dariush is on a 4 fight win streak.
Lost to Damir Ismagulov, who has won all 3 of his UFC appearances and has only one loss for 19 wins.

-RFA Champion
-4 Submissions, 3 TKO/KO

Also fought in Dana Whites Contender Series Brazil. Free but shitty version of fight:

Heres one of his fights for the belt against Robert Watley
Watley looked a bit bigger and ended up winning a decision fight where both looked good at times

Heres his fight defending the belt against Zach Freeman:

From what I can tell, he has looked well rounded so far. Johnson is a very experienced fighter however and perhaps even more well rounded-- though there are questions about his heart and commitment to fighting.

Im betting Johnson will be have the size / weight advantage on fight night.

Watley looked bigger than him in the fight above and Moises lost to a decision.
Freeman was bigger than him, but he won a decision.

He seems on the smaller side for lightweight.

Im a bit intrigued by what Moises can do. Hes 25, has some experience under his belt already, and I believe he has a chance to beat Johnson.

I’ve trained with him. He’s very fundamentally sound and well rounded. I think the biggest thing holding him back is his physical strength. I know he’s now taking fights now @ 145 which should help, but what he really needs is a good S&C program.

He’s relatively young in the fight game so he’s far from a finished product.

If you have any Q’s, I don’t mind answering.

Interesting.

Glad I picked up on the size thing. That was my biggest concern going into this fight and you confirmed it.

Would you say hes more comfortable on the feet, or in his submission game?

Have you talked to him about the Johnson fight? If so, what are his thoughts? How do you think he matches up with Johnson?

Is this gonna be at FW or LW? Cuz MJ looked terrible at 145, which absolutely shocked me. I was saying for years he should move down from LW where he was really a smaller 155 to 145 and show the little guys what elite boxing really looked like... yeah, that classifies as a failure to launch!

That is a great question, as both guys could fight at 145. ESPN listed the fight as a lightweight bout.

When I say he’s well rounded he truly is. He’s one of the new breed that approaches the sport correctly... not just learning as much striking offense as possible and solely working on TDD for grappling.

His striking defense is great, which is the hardest thing to learn in striking. His grappling is fundamentally solid and he’s difficult to get position on. I believe it’s why Dariush (whos a phenomenal and normally exciting fighter) couldn’t do anything with him. He was forced to muscle takedowns and hold on.

I think the older he gets, the more size he’ll put on, but I can’t stress the S&C thing enough. It would maximize his opportunities to end fight with strikes, force submissions, and most of all avoid muscle fatigue which plagued him in his last fight and the one with Dariush. Guys like Chiesa and RDA are perfect examples of guys who maximized their physical tools with S&C.

As for the Johnson fight, I think he can win. I don’t think Johnson is gonna connect with those fast bombs of his and he hasn’t been the same since Khabib

We have the same MT striking coach, I’m gonna be sure to get with him when I see him.

I did a bit of research on him, posted above. Then the thread took an unexpected turn when @BRASIL WAND stated he has trained with him and provided some very interesting information on him.

Fantastic posts bud thanks for sharing. That’s some really great insight. I’m actually quite excited for this fight now haha.

Oh yeah now I recall the Dariush fight.

Same here.

It’s like new BTT vs Chute Boxe feud... ATT vs Blackzillians (Hard Knocks 365) Even though they all left with Hooft, it’s essentially the same rivalry lol.

I normally try to respect the gym by not putting out too much internal stuff but I don’t mind answering any general questions. And I got in trouble accidentally spoiling the ATT/Blackzillians TUF here lol. Honest mistake.

So any Q’s shoot if you got them.
