What do you guys think of Bob Arum?

Dana White and Bob Arum are far from the same.

Arum is a liar just like most promoters and not some outstanding citizen, he probably rips his fighters off or at least tries to as much as he can.

But compared to Dana White he is okay, i think it's every Boxing promoter's dream to be in DW shoes you know boss around the fighters like they are nothing and pay them piss poor from the money each show rakes in.

And people forget that this whole Boxing vs MMA thing was started by those 2 ignorant douchebags Dana White and Joe Rogan. Just see that "debate" Rogan had with Dibella or Dana's fake media conference to an empty room before Mayweather vs Marquez, talking shit about Boxing.

I did like the fact that he recently took Cotto vs Foreman to the Yankee stadium though even if it cost more.

Buddy. Everybody at any job or business is a liar. People tend to reserve truth, caring, sympathy, and like emotions for their friends and loved ones. Certainly you're still a human being and exhibit those emotions to a degree, and as thus occasionally express them, but at the end of the day if I have to choose between increasing the salary of an employee of my small business by $5k/yr or buying my 12 year old some braces to fix her fucked-up looking teeth, you know the deal....

Does everybody all of a sudden turn into a 17 year old socialist idealist when they log in to the forums or what? Business is business, nobody is forcing anybody to do anything they don't wanna do.

... the employee obviously. gotta smash those family ties if you want to succeed

Did I say otherwise?

I was saying Arum is a liar like most promoters, that's part of the job hype up your own fighters even if takes some lying.

He is no different in that regard to any other promoter which is okay with me.

Arum is no small businessman though, he has been one of the biggest Boxing promoters for decades now.

There's a difference between being a 17 year old socialist idealist, and wanting to see fighters get adequate pay relative to their pulling power and risk, though I'm directing this more at MMA.

And I'd bet you full well Don King back then forced people to do anything they didn't wanna do, so it wasn't just "Business is Business".

I wasn't talking about 'don king back then', i was talking about dana white and bob arum, so yes business is business. I might night like it if I was an mma fighter but the UFC is not a charity. If you want to sign a contract, fine. If you don't, you'll either get an offer for more money or the UFC will decide that their capitol is better spent elsewhere...why cry about it? I'm from a country in the former USSR, and I'm shocked at how many proud Americans denounce communism/socialism, but cry about why someone gets more money than somebody else that deserves it more- if they deserved it more they would get it, and yes I'm talking about firemen who save lives vs NBA players and the like. It's really a pretty simple philosophy, and most people here have the opportunity to do whatever they want to do, within reason, so there's no use in complaining. If you think you can do better than Arum, get into Harvard Law School and give it a shot.

Please tell me how there different?

They're different in every way other than both being promoters. Anything you may think they have in common, other than possessing the necessary character traits to become very very successful, are probably traits that you and I possess as well.

1. I never said I could do better than Bob Arum did I? So get off your high horse.

2. There are serious problems with tue UFCs pay scale, that much has been commonly discussed. But that is as far as the FIGHTERS go, I didn't say anything about the UFC's success as a business, which is ridiculously obvious for anyone who's seen UFC becoming so mainstream.

3. I said anything about communism/socialism, so don't even try to make some bullshit assumption about my politics that you don't know anything about.

Fighter pay scale is of concern to me with me wanting to become a fighter myself and trying to go off either mma or boxing, not making any assumptions I'd be successful in either, but if I'm getting my brains bashed in, I still want something to show for it at the end of the day as well, as someone training boxing yourself you should be able to understand why this would be more than a quick decision for someone.

Socialism involves gov't intervention.

I at least never called for that in MMA.

There is a difference between the fanbase protesting what they see as unfair pay to the fighters and attempting to change it through media exposure or boycott compared to calling for gov't to intervene in this and implement the Muhammad Ali act in MMA.

And let's not act like we ever had pure capitalism in the US, that's only possible in an anarchy. For all the so called public services like roads there was money taken from the public even back in the day. There are guys who argue against this too as a form of socialism though even most self proclaimed capitalists in this country would think complete privatization of roads as being crazy and privatization of all defense as being totally insane (which pure anarcho-capitalists also argue for).

My favorite Bob Arum moment was after the Chris Arreola-Jameel Mcline fight when he he came out and said that their fight made him sick to his stomach because it was two overweight and out of shape heavyweights fighting on HBO representing the heavyweight division in america with rolls of fat jiggling all over there bodies. And then the next day Dan Goosen released a statement reminding everyone that Arum used to be Butterbeans promoter lol.

Ok I'm going to stop dabbling in your UFC pay grade debate. You win, the fighters 'should' make more, whatever that means.

Not a fair comparison obviously, but still a funny one.

Convenient how you typed that to make it seem like I said the fighters should get money thrown at them. Not even close but nice try, I said the fighters should get paid farely ACCORDING to their star power and merit in the ring/cage/etc, which is why I expressly said it applies to MMA, not just the UFC, which still probably pays the best for their higher ups compared to their lower talent. But the guys who are most qualified should be getting paid more

my most recent example being Carwin vs Lesnar, Carin's 80k for what was being touted as the biggest fight in mma up to that point? whether you take it literally or metaphorically, I would've expected him to have more due to his popularity and record up to his fight with Lesnar. If everything was pc you wouldn't have people getting into such contract disputes in the first place. (Couture, Werdum, the Fitch fiasco, which was admittedly about video game rights)

fighters should make what they .earn. not just get an automatic piece of the gate, if you're some no name idiot who can't fight a day in his life, you absolutely shouldn't be making a sizable portion of the proceeds, I wouldn't expect Keith Jardine to make Pacquiao money, and that you tried to suggest that I was doing something like that is ridiculous.

You don't have to agree with me, but your insults only make you look bad, not me, now if you want to have an intelligent arguement I'm all for it, if not that's fine too.

At least he's never cheated his fighters out of money or anything though...

cough** Golden Boy cough**
