I'll admit, she only caught my notice because she's cute, but dayum she's got a crazy ground game and she's petty tough to boot. With a top striking coach, she could potentially be UFC caliber (providing she is comfortable at straw weight or UFC opens an atom weight division.) Your thoughts?
She is extremely overated and pushed as a superstar to sell tickets to the uneducated people in lower Asia. Her ground game is better the the cans that she has faced but that doesn't mean it's good, she will probably never leave one as mentioned above cause of the money and easy opponents.
She beat V.V Mei who is top 5 at Atomweight, that alone is impressive. She just turned 20, is only 6 fights into her pro career, and took a huge step up in her last fight (and won). Let's hold off on the can crushing accusations for a bit. As for the thread question, she is highly talented and easy to market. She should be a big name for years to come.
Angela Lee has never faced a opponent with better record then herself before the V.V fight. And V.V is from another weightclass to make extra sure that Angela wins. So I think we all can agree that One pushes for her to win. Yeah also in the youth of Mma Ken shamrock was a top 2 guy in the world and look where he is now, first people fight then more talented people erupt so don't use ranking as an excuse for talent.
She had a reasonable progression for a teenager. First 2 fights were gimmies, then she fought someone with a .500 record, and then 2 fighters with winning records. After this she fought a top 5 fighter (yes it was from the division below), how often does a 5-0 fighter face a top 5 fighter from any division, let alone as a teenager? Of course ONE wants her to win but V.V Mei was far from a safe opponent. Ken Shamrock was a top guy 20 years ago, the game has changed. I don't see how this is relevant.
i like her. her grappling really isnt that good yet, but she is very young (as is her bro who i think technically is pretty far ahead of her). at 20 years old and competing successfully in the venues she's had, she could have a very bright future, especially since she can be marketable to a few different asian countries as well as the u.s.
She's 19 years old, obviously skilled on the ground, but her stand up leaves a lot to be desired. She's young and being hyped, but she's also being matched up well for her age/experience level. V.V. Mei, someone used to fighting at 105, exposed holes in her standup with that wicked hook. Sit back, enjoy her fights. She's in ONE, and trains with Evolve, so she's not going anywhere.
Yeah, Yamaguchi was from a different weight-class. That's why when they both made the hydrated-atomweight limit, she actually weighed in heavier than her.
I'd be a litt Which sadly means we will never know how how good she can be since she won't be facing top competition. She is not Rin Nakai, but like Rin, she is a marketing tool more than anything for ONE. And I'd be wary about these claims of her making all this money. There are a lot of BS artists involved with that promotion.
Angela documented her weight loss. She was shocked she got down that far, mit's was unintentional. Yamaguchi has consistently fought at 105 her whole career, and looking at her frame, myou can tell it's an easy weight to make for her.
