Elections What did Trump say here and can someone explain it?

The media is not going to talk about Trump being too old. That would upset the balance of the race.
By upsetting the balance of the race you mean hurt ratings, then yes, you're right.

One thing DJT has been 100% right about is the media's greed and attention to ratings. He knows how to play them like no one I have ever seen before.

Trump having a biden level fuck up in the debate will be the only way

It’s beyond me. All I can say is that English professors around the world are amazed by that weave.

That needs to be added to his greatest hits, along with this masterpiece:
My favorite is his response to Hannity asking about his top priorities in his second term (in 2020, so he's declined even more since this, as the latest talk shows):

"One of the things that will be really great -- the word experience is still good, I always say talent is more important than experience, I've always said that -- but the word experience is a very important word, a very important meaning.

"I never did this before, never slept over in Washington. I was in Washington maybe 17 times and all of a sudden I'm the president of the United States, you know the story, riding down Pennsylvania Avenue with our first lady and I say this is great but I didn't know very many people in Washington, it wasn't my thing. I was from Manhattan, from New York, and now I know everybody. And I have great people in the administration. You make some mistakes, like an idiot like Bolton, you don't have to drop bombs on everybody."

Not even Grumpy himself could decipher that... Well at least not without sidetracking into sharks vs electric engines and 20 other weird non-related things long before making an actual explanation

The fact that this man still has tens of millions of diehard supporters speaks volumes about the education in this country. Good grief dude, this guy makes zero sense and yet his cultists will go after Kamala and Walz for supposedly not having any policies.
A big reason he still has a lot of supporters is because they perceive him to be an EthnoNationalist who wants to roll-back some of the gains progressives have made since the Civil Rights Act. A big part of Trump's allure is just tribalism. Some people just can't stand it that America today is not like it was in the 50s.

Got polling data?

He's old and failing cognitively. And he was never a student of actual policy so he doesn't have years of information to fall back on.

8 years ago, he could have pivoted smoothly into talking about his economic tariffs goal. But now? He's declined too much to do so.

So, we get an old man trying to bullshit his way through a question about an issue that he has never thought about or cared about.

Got polling data?
What has polling got to do with it? Do you think there are polls for every argument people make?

Why tribalism a big reason for his support:

- Trump was a political nobody until he jumped on the racist Birther theory. He became a rightwing grassroots darling after he championed birtherism. That speaks volumes about the reason the GOP grassroots supports him.

- Trump has repeatedly engaged in racial dog-whistles. Why would he do this unless he believes it is what his base wants to hear.

No! To Trump fans, he is always perfect. If you don’t know exactly what Trump means by this you are a partisan hack, clinically stupid, or both.

No, but for the one you made, probably.
The argument I made was based on how Trump became a rightwing darling and why Trump routinely engages in racially charged attacks. My argument is also strongly influenced by how the conservative grassroots can support him despite Trump trying to engineer a coup - I am referring to the attempts by Trump and his supporters to overthrow Biden's 2020 win.

Nothing to do with supposedly going back to the 50s.

Also the 50s were a lot wilder than people remember. Books were a big deal and the kind of books that got read a lot and published are wild.

Saying they "want to go back to the 50s" is just a euphemism , i.e. it's just a shorthand way of saying a good part of the GOP base want a return to a time when certain people knew their place.

Than why did you not say that and even be more specific than that?
