Turtle guard and inverted guard are unorthodox. I like to use a "sideways guard" where I'm halfway between turtle and inverted. I proudly consider that to be unorthodox.

there's nothing unorthodox about the guard itself. what makes Eduardo unorthodox is that it's pretty much his entire base, and almost all he chooses to use.
 
what makes u consider gene lebell an unorthodox grappler.....
Gene is known for using off the wall subs. Some of his catch wrestling moves are so crazy that they don't look like they would work, but they do. Even his Judo is eccentric at times. Gene is one crazy dude.
