Hi, I'm an MMA practicionner and I wanted to know what I could replace the wrestling style with. You see, here in Switzerland, there is no emphasis put on wrestling. The only wrestling club I know is 2 hours away from my house, and it's 1 hour training 3 times a week (not at all the regimen you have it the states). So as a big fan of wrestling I wanted to know what would get me to about the same level as some of you wrestlers to hopefully, when I move to the states in 4-5 years, be able to join a wrestling club without having to worry too much about my level.

Here are the grappling arts available in my place:
-BJJ
-Sambo
-Judo
-Aikido
-Yoseikan Budo (obviously wit some striking)
-Vale tudo/shootfighting (with striking)
-Jiu-jitsu

Thanks!

Judo & BJJ IMHO for a solid grappling base.

bjj and judo hand in hand will make you an awesome grappler. if you can, go for it!

Its tough to find any where to train wrestling under a coach that isnt a college or highschool.
I live in florda and wouldnt mind training some wrestling now and again, but i just cant find anywhere to train it. The best option i have is to ask some of the wrestlers at bjj practice to train wtith me.. and i just end up falling into my reg bjj pattern with them.

What is the end goal? If you want to be a vale tudo fighter then obviously the vale tudo academy...if you want to be a submission guy then jiu jitsu. Sombo/sambo has a lot of wrestling encorperated into it.

I am assuming that not only do you want to learn the sub game/sub defense game for MMA you want to learn to takedown and avoid takedown...
As stated earlier take BJJ or sub grappling (since it doenst use the gi) but then i would add Judo. Judo is very good for learning throws and counter throws as well as defense of takedowns.

Judo is going to be the closest MA to European style wrestling. Judo/Sambo, Judo/BJJ will make an excellent combo.

Judo, BJJ or Sambo. Try them all on & see which one fits you best.

i'd say BJJ + Judo or BJJ + Sambo (perfectly complimentary imo)

Judo always produces some tough wrestlers when they cross over. They'll catch you with some funky throws.

BJJ and sambo? I heard that sambo is like russian jiu jitsu...well, I'll see, because there's a sambo school near where I live.
My main goal is to be able to hang grappling-wise with guys who've trained wrestling throughout high school/college, and hopefully, be able to join an amateur wrestling gym of some sort. I like wrestling because of the sheer power and the strong takedowns, the dominance and what it can bring to your fight game (matt hughes, rampage, mark coleman, kid, kevin randleman...)

for what you wrote, i would say sambo and bjj. Sambo already has wrestlign techniques in it .

Wrong.

Sambo = Russian Judo

It ALL just judo in the end. Sambo, BJJ - even wrestling (just judo w/o the gi......)

Wrong

Sambo is NOT Judo:icon_twis :icon_chee

Oh fro gods sakes dude, YES IT IS. SAMBO was developed primarily from Judo and Folk Wrestling techniques. Nearly all top Samboist in Russia also have extensive Judo experience. There variants of the same basic art. It's like saying greco is wrestling, but freestyle is not
