What Can Gus Improve On From His Last Fight With Jones?

Be more agressive while still using his great footwork so he won't get taken down.

Avoid spinning elbows.

Defend against kicks better as well.

Even blocked ones he absorbed had to suck.

And defend the kicks better as well. He has a great chin but he got hit with some hard ones to the head.

More aggression, more active with knees in the clinch, throw in some headkicks and now he has a tough 5 rounder under his belt, more cardio.

Cardio would be a big one, he dropped the first fight in the last six minutes.

Yep, and I don't think his cardio was bad, but his strategy involved a shitload of movement. Hard to maintain that at that size.

All that said, if he hadn't been hit by the elbow, whose damage was enhanced by his ensuing fatigue, he wins round 4, even with fatigue.... still loses 5, but I think that's the decision right there.

Circling away to his lead side, attacking Jones' lead side, keeping the pressure on Jones distance wise.
Once he started backing off Jones he started losing.
Yeah, I think he really only needs to do what he did for the first 2-3 rounds of their fight, for five rounds. It's not as if what he was doing wasn't working, Jones just got wise to it and started timing his head movement with high kicks and that hellbow which probably won him the fight. The fourth was actually pretty close up to that, it was NOT Gus piecing up Jones for 4:30 then getting rocked as his diehard fans seem to think.

He's going to have to avoid the cloud.

Party with him and spike his coke before the fight

Actually it was. Jones got a couple of shots in but that until the elbow that round was mostly Jones getting his ass kicked.

Kick Jones' legs a little more than last time. Circle out immediately after Jones puts him against a cage because a hard elbow is coming next. Be careful of spinning shit in general.
If it wasn't for that 4th round spinning elbow, a lot more people would've had the fight for Gus.

The cardio is a big factor, and his striking defense.

Jones is going to land all those little flip kicks that have zero windup. He just is. But the hail mary flying knees and spinning elbows and jumping high kicks, which completely rescued him from the jaws of defeat, are something I feel pretty certain Gustafsson is going to improve upon.

He also might feel a little better about opening up now that he knows his TDD is pretty spectacular against Jones. He obviously still needs to be cautious, but it's something he can feel much better about this time around.

Check leg kicks. 40% of Jone's strikes were kicks. 27% were "leg jabs" which pretty much means slapping leg kicks or push kicks.

Funny story: all were considered "significant". Go back and watch some of those teaps and quad-pushes and see if you'd call those "significant".

Every strike is significant
