What can be changed to make boxing safer?

You really don't know who anyone is here do you.

I remember when RR got banned you claimed you never heard of him.
You've had an account since 2001 and you don't know the guy who manages some of the people we talk about and then get mad at one of the fighters who works with Mayweather Sr.
@YoungCashMoney has talked about Senior before.

Nope, this isnt a full time thing for me, i pop on from time to time, and reply when i need to, i dont feel the need to read every single thread or every post if it doesnt interest me.

There is way too much shit on these forums to sift through to get to things worth reading.

completely agree with the weight cutting thing. weight cutting should be banned in all combat sports.

This 100% , you can’t change too many things in boxing they’re just out of everyone’s control unless you fundamentally change the sport but this is one of the few things that can and should be changed

People would still cut weight and have less time to hydrate properly. If you're looking to end brain trauma, same day weigh ins won't help. Fighters would still cut the excess weight.

Wait why would you cut weight for a fight night weigh in and be emaciated, weak and vulnerable during a fight?

Money. Fear of pissing off a promoter.

What if you weigh them every day for two weeks leading up to the fight? Wouldn't that make it too hard to weight cut?

Weight class fear does impact also for ammies ( non pro ) in no striking arts.
How it happens? Especially if no allowance for extra weight.
You wish to grapple with guys A B C in weight class x.
If your weight exceeds limit for this weight class, they might a) put you in higher weight class, where you compete maybe with not just stronger but more experienced guys. b) remove you from athletes list for this tournament.
This fear does impact also for wrestlings, all grappling arts with weight classes, all striking arts with weight classes.
For amateur this might impact bout record, possible place in tournaments results table etc.

So there isn’t anything you think could be done better or changed to better the safety of the fighters?

There’s a pattern with all these fighters that get injured that we as viewers can identify, so professionals should be able to see it coming even sooner. It’s usually the same recipe

It's always a guy who can crack but isn't a devastating puncher against a guy will to take punishment with a good chin.

Depends on the severity, I’m not a trained doctor so idk the signs but I’m sure there’s a way to tell if someone is damaged badly, it’s real tough to figure out where that point is. If there is a very enhanced risk of brain injury due to an injury sustained in the ring already that can be seen and proven without a shadow of a doubt, then yeah I’d stop it

I appreciate your answer. In terms of severity, if your brain is concussed and you get hit again, the injury becomes exponentially worse. If the fight is stopped due to a concussion, the winner can be determined by the scorecards, because they really can't continue.

Anything that stops the fight due to a punch would have to be rewarded with a tko victory

I think that 12 rounds is too much.

Sonnen did a piece on this subject today. I tend to agree with him on this one:

Not much, because if you do it will suck and lose its appeal. It would be like watching a tight rope walker doing his thing 2 feet above the ground. No risk, no entertainment.

I was going to post something similar. It would be like making porn less pornographic. Easy enough to do, but not without losing appeal.

not much can be done, anytime a death with any kind of profile happens, it's the same thing. Not much can be done to make the sport safer, the dehydration fighters go through, the punishment, i suppose science could possibly find some flaws in a fighters brain/blood vessel structures someday but it's not something predictable now. It's a horrible thing and I feel for Buddy right now and of course the opponent who almost always either quit or are never the same.
