these idiots can't touch Lee sensei, he would master jiu jitsu easily and Lee was aware of Grappling.

Even Conor Know Lee it's a Chad!!

Goes something like this

you're dumb ?! Bruce Lee doesn't fight kung fu you casual, he already talked about how this martial art had many flaws.

The man was an action TV, and movie star. He was the inspiration for so many top level mma fighters. They were all inspired by watching him. Can’t that be enough? Why do we need to fantasize about fights that never happened. He was dead before most of you were born.

Accept and honour him for what he was. A great movie star that inspired millions of people to take martial arts training.
To be fair, he was a martial artist as well.

Draw. Belt is piece of cloth and Bruce Lee is dead.

These are dumb questions...
If he was around to compete in Pride he would learn better ground skills and have access to training like veryone else.

If you are around then, you wouldn't have a fraction the training access he has

- In an interview, Gene Lebell says Bruce trained with him and got "pretty good at grappling":

- My friend took a seminar with Dan Inosanto and they drilled Single Leg takedowns. Dan said there were many days Bruce invited him over to just practice Single Leg takedowns.

Pretty surprising. He wasn't an expert but probably knew more ground n pound than we previously thought.

- Stephen Thompson said that Joe Lewis (who was a long time active Bruce hater) admitted to him that Bruce hit him the hardest (out of all these heavyweights)

- Modern Martial Art techniques breakdown:

Not quite MMA, but if you zoom in and slow mo:
- He's checking kicks
- Parries the jab to counter (boxing),
- Does a mayweather style "lean forward" fade away punch,
- Counters a jab with a round kick
- Head movement on punches (trying to slip punches)
- Reads his opponent and directs opponent into a knee to the head. (Muay thai style)

The guy knew his shit. I dont know if he could beat like Saenchai, Petrosyan, Samart, and other top level strikers. But to say he didn't at least have more than a chance at beating a Gracie in a mixed rules fight or low/mid tier UFC fighter in a striking match, is a little absurd.

There is a lot of variance in White/Blue belts.

Saying a blue belt beats Bruce Lee requires more specificity.

Do you mean Joe Average 35 year old weekend warrior who showed up for 12 months? Or even erratically over a 36 month period?

Or do you mean 22 year old Chad Thunderslam from Wrestling U, who only has a blue belt because of tenure in BJJ, despite having thousands of mat hours in wrestling?

who knows, purple belt and up? as others have said, he did train some grappling. at least promoting the idea you should train striking and grappling wasn't common back in that day. if he bothered to put a submission in the movie, he must've valued grappling to some degree

liked for "Chad Thunderslam" :D maybe Chad Mendes can use that in a pro wrestling gig

Every sherdog white belt taps him out via whatever

From Bruce Lee's book. This is what people mean when they say he was the father of MMA. He studied everything.

At a time where people were still fighting over what was the one best martial art, Bruce was studying all of them and telling people to keep what works for you and discard what doesn't. Be like water.

Book was published in 1975 and people were still debating the best martial art when the UFC started in 1993. No one in the mainstream world could comprehend what Bruce was trying to convey in his book.

Emmm…..I think it’s fairly safe to say he would get his ass handed to him by any of them.

Saenchai, Petrosyan and Samart end it whenever they like, however they like.

Bruce Lee was awesome back in the 70s. Now days the sport can pass someone by in 5-10 years.

Brue Lee gets submitted by a white belt

Bruce Lee gets submitted by a blue belt
Bruce Lee gets submitted by a person who has watched one or two instructional videos on BJJ that weighs over 160lbs

Disclaimer: I am Bruce Lee fan and love watching his movies

Very true.

I lean towards thinking the weekend warrior would have a good chance, while the guy with the wresting background runs through him.

Outstanding book.

He has high praise for all live combat sports and talks a ton about the superiority of boxing, fencing, wrestling, judo, etc.

Obviously this was written after he met Lebell as I mentioned above.

You can see Gene's catch wrestling mixed with judo style in Bruce's drawings above.

If Bruce was still alive I could see him coaching up and comers with Gene over the last few decades.

I haven't seen the drawings of the double leg and single legs in his books before.

There is a drawing in one of his books that shows a guillotine and I believe RNC as well.

I don't think he was an expert grappler. But he knew his shit.

Apparently his go-to's in standing were the Eye Jab (the Jon Jones special) and oblique kicks to the knee.

Bruce Lee died in 1973....

Bruce Lee did train with wrestlers who trained at this Dojo and even with Gene Lebell, he had at least trained TDD and grappling to some extent so he'd probably do pretty well against a pure BJJ black belt his size in an MMA fight. He'd lose if he got taken down but would have the advantage in standup and probably would be able to defend takedowns better than people would think.
