This has probably been discussed before but how well do you think Thai's would do in the sport of MMA? I have always been into sports and followed various sports mainly fighting but I have never seen anyone train as hard as I have seen certain Thai's train during my several stays out in Thailand. They are very hardworking and talented athletes! There rhythm and conditioning is incredible and the way they are able to sweep fighters of there feet, there movement during the clinch, speed & balance is of another world. Its just a shame we don't see them enough internationally.
I for one think if someone with the right money and connections could start up a gym in Thailand and get around a dozen of Thai fighters with potential, train them up with the right team behind them in my opinion they would be a formidable force in MMA! Think of how many Thai fighters are out there at 17/18 year old's who have had hundreds of fights behind them. Americans have fighters with wrestling backgrounds. Brazilians have fighters with BJJ backgrounds but the Thai's have fighters with a good solid MuayThai Background.
Also people may talk about take down defense and etc but I don't think a lot of people realize how good Thais are at clinching and how effective they could be with there take down defense with the right training. I feel that MT is not utilized enough in MMA as much as it could be. A lot of these MMA gyms seem to teach watered down MuayThai especially when it comes to the clinch. There was an interview of Jon Jones a little while back talking about MT clinch vs Greco-Roman clinch and what he talked about was grabbing the back of the head and 2 knees.
( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGPbRc2g9lg ) Now if you think that the MuayThai clinch is just kneeing, elbows and grabbing the back of the head then you obviously don't know enough and this goes to show the lack of knowledge when it comes to real MT in MMA. There is a lot more to the clinch then that, a lot! Not saying that MT clinch is better then Greco-Roman but it has it can be useful in MMA. Also try to take down a thai who has you in the clinch and you will know what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6sxSOFWkL4
