What are your primary(or favorite) guards for BJJ GI(taking advantage of grips etc) and NOGI.

and of course full guard is a given

GI(I play all of these more frequently than full):
Spider I play most frequently
Butterfly

NOGI:
Rubber guard
Half guard (lotta leg locks :icon_chee)
some butterfly

Gi/No-Gi: Sitting/Turtle
Butterfly/Half

I usually just adapt my grips but play the same games

You would need some amazing forearm and grip strength for no-gi spider ... I've never thought to try

Gi: All kinds of crazy open guard.

No-gi: All kinda of crazy slippery guards with more scrambling.

I like just old school full guard. Then again, you guys prolly know more slick maneuvers then I.

I'm still a beginner, but I find I'm most comfortable in butterfly and half guard. I don't like having full guard at all.

I am always experimenting with stuff, but I use butterfly a lot, some half(defensivly), and the open TK guard. There is some other stuff that I am experimenting with right now.

A lot of half, high and rubber. I don't really roll gi all that much anymore.

I'm liking the half/butterfly as of late. Sweeps are easiest for me there. I'm working on my rubber guard, but that's hard for a short, stocky, fat guy like me (5'7", 210lbs). Gimme time...

I know you said not to, but I have to give props to full guard. I like it the best. I'm a long legged bastard, and I actually do quite well from there in many regards: subs, sweeps, taking the back, etc. Second is butterfly guard though. I usually switch between them.

no gi..for mma style ..Closed guard and half guard. I dont like open stuff where a guy can break grip and stand up over ya to land crazy "karo style" diving punches or "Sak style" kicks to the legs.

I've been playing a lot more open guard lately.

But my primary guards are definately closed, half, and basic butterfly.

GI - Lots of open guards like spider guard & butterfly

NOGI - Half guard, X guard, but in competition I often found myself using standard closed guard, and very succesfull with it.

Im a meat and potatos guy.

Closed guard with gi or without

I love the spider guard when rolling with a gi

Gi: Half-guard, spider guard, de la riva, cross guard, x-guard

no-gi: half-guard, cross guard, x-guard
