What are your best solutions for stopping corruption in D.C.?

Vote for my preferred candidates, who are anti-corruption, unlike those other candidates, who like doing corruption.
This is really the only thing that could work. Any systems that are put in place to fight corruption are only as good as the people who are willing and able to enforce them.

No but really the Federal government has no business being as big as it is. I have zero answers besides scaling back the size of the federal government.
I'm never sure what people mean when they say this.

Like, we obviously need more reps in Congress for starters. Including territories and the Senate we're under 600 total elected reps in D.C. to cover more than 300 million people.

Do we get rid of the FDA? The CDC? The EPA? Obviously those would be disastrous decisions. Do we stop holding states accountable to federal law? Like really expand state tyranny for no particular reason other than the size of government seems really big? End Medicaid/Medicare? Disastrous obv. I dunno, the "big government" argument just seems like a way of saying "It's too big for me to understand so I don't like it." States do a horrible job of protecting rights, too.

Also, how big is the government?

You implicitly conceded that it needed fixing in your statement here two sentences later:

I was thinking of politicians and didnt think you were going to split hairs with me just to argue. If a dudes been a senator or whatever he should be able to run for president . But I dont think once youve worked in politics you should be able to work for anyone ever again. Its either for the people or you are retired

This is an undisputable fact, yet somehow I suspect you're going to resist this notion.

Its disputed and im going to resist. Lets say a million people need something but none of them is going to pay you

Lets say one company needs the opposite of what those million people needs and they are willing to hire you for 10 years at 7 mil a year and you dont even have to show up to work.

Thats how our system works and why its bursting at the seen with corruption. Theres nothing wrong with a government for the people and by the people but when we the people dont get a say anymore is when shit gets weird . This isnt a left right thing or even a federal government thing. This is a some people and companies have enough money to write numbers on a piece of paper until you see things their way thing . Its also why @Fawlty s idea of not elect corrupt people in the first place will never work either.

I'll get some Canadians together, we'll burn it down again and they can start fresh.

Other than that, it's kind of too late. The people with the power to change it are the people with the most to lose.

EPA and CDC are legitimate agencies, the FDA has probably saved as many people as they let die by not allowing them to have access to medications that would save their lives

I’m talking about programs like HUD, Agricultural subsidies, the EDA, etc

There’s a ton of programs and small agencies that have no real effect besides wasting money

Also there’s lots of laws that the federal government shouldn’t be passing. We can’t even count the amount of federal laws or even programs and yet people pretend that our federal government isn’t large enough

They should pass a law to give life in prison for any politician that takes bribes.

Put the fear of god in them.

bern them all!

This one is super easy, non-partisan, and would happen if the Establishment didn't run everything.

28th Amendment

Only U.S. Citizens of voting age may donate to political campaigns. The limit per year is $5,000 per citizen in total contributions. A citizen may not donate to any campaign outside of their geographic impact.

Impact:

· No: foreign countries or citizens, corporations, unions, special interest groups can contribute.
· This includes all ballot measures.
· Citizens cannot donate to any politician or measure out of their residency which the politician directly impacts.

This will effectively make the politicians answer to, "We the People", and take the $ out of the game.

1. Prohibit spouses and other family members for members of Congress from being on the board of companies within their home district.

2. Limit lobbying for 5 years after you leave your job in either the legislative or executive branch.

3. End the swinging door between politics and media. Sorry, if you were a member of congress, you can't be a paid talking head for Foxnews, Good Morning America, or CNN for the next 5 years. Likewise, if your wife is an Executive Producer at ABC news, it should said say so on your WH lapel.

4. Talking heads on network and cable news must have the amount of money they donated to political campaigns listed under their name each time they are in front of a camera.

5. If you can't pass a background check, you can't be in any Congressional/Senatorial committees. You can talk on CSPAN and vote, but you have no way to be close to sensitive information. You are on your own and no one is going to send your district any sweet sweet pork barrel projects.

6. A public database listing all US citizens that once had a TS clearance that now work as a consultant with a foreign government.

7. End the Franking privilege.

8. Primaries: 2nd Tuesday in September; General Election: 2nd Tuesday in November.

9. Your office door must have stickers from the companies that give you money. It must resemble a NASCAR with the amount of sponsors you have.

10. Allow my dog, Varjak (After Paul Varjak from Breakfast At Tiffany's) to run for president. He's a good boy!

Says the Hillary Clinton supporter.

It's nice to see this guy gimmick die out though. Look at his post again.

"My preferred candidates who are anti-corruption"

"Unlike those other candidates, who like doing corruption"

It's clear as night and day this guy is trolling. "Who like doing corruption" isn't even proper English.
You don't need proper English to talk about Trump. He's a rusher asset.

I literally can’t get on board with any of these so called “reforms”

except #10

Obviously cut taxes for billionaires, remove environmental protections, and leave health insurance more in the hands of consumers, especially those with expensive needs.

Voting trump again and voicing my displeasure at corrupt socialist bills and programs is the best I can do.

You can’t have a corrupt government if there’s no government in charge
<seedat>

You can't really measure gov't size, but Madison made the argument that a bigger gov't would be less corrupt, and I think if you just look at federal vs. state vs. local, it does seem that the smaller the gov't (in the sense of how many people it governs), the more corrupt it tends to be.

Yeah I wonder if those things could possibly ever be measured and I wonder how much employment standards factor into this. I would imagine it’s pretty easy for nepotism to happen on the city level but a spread out federal government probably wouldn’t be so bad.

I do agree with you but unfortunately it’s all based on anecdotes. In any case, my issue is the amount of wasteful and/or outdated programs by the Fed. When I say the federal government should be shrunk, people always go go the few programs that were all aware of, like the EPA, when I’m talking about programs and small agencies that cost hundreds of millions, some billions, that get nothing done. Perhaps it is not outright corruption but it’s bordering the edge of corruption if you’re taking a bunch of federal dollars to make very little real life change.

An engaged, active and intelligent citizenry.

Also, public hangings for treason and corruption.

Imo...

The only possible way is for power to be as decentralized as possible so they don't have huge favors to give and people can move from corrupt areas without having to completely flee the country. People will always be corrupt if the benefit is worth it, so the solution is to shrink their authority so corruption isn't a factor. Every totalitarian state has been horribly corrupt and there's nothing anybody can do about it outside foreign intervention.

People should be voting on every little thing instead of representatives whonsaid one thing to get elected and then betray those promiseswhen it's time to vote on legislation, parties eliminated and ballots should be selected like jury duty. 20(or whatever) candidates are drafted and the people vote from that pool instead of gatekeepers and fundraising. The media won't know whose cawk to suck because it changes every term and there are no parties.

It can't be understated how much corruption, lies, bribery has had an adverse effect on the decision making abilities of everyone on capitol hill and the white house. Corporate lobbyists seem to have a chokehold on the vast majority of the congress and senate, as well as the white house. The Saudis and other big money influencers seem to always be making moves behind the scenes in D.C. too.

What ideas do you have for limiting corruption as a whole in the Capitol, Nationwide, and making elected officials as transparent as possible and accountable for their actions?
I find it hilarious, and sad, that y’all believe this is a problem of the flesh, rather than that of the spirit.

If corruption, to some degree, or another, has existed since the dawn of time, what makes you think you can now vanquish it!?

I would like to see less legal loopholes and more accountability.

The entire point of this system has been hijacked and manipulated to create a laws for hire type system.

Bernie winning and limiting corporate lobbying would be a good start.

This!!!

Publicly funded campaigns/no private donations.

And at this point some kind of regulations built into MSM that forces fair news stories and coverage.
