what are advantage/disadvantages of trap bar for doing deadlifts and such?
 
Trap bar= the HIT ghey until you are strong.

I fucking love the trapbar. Trapbar deads are great, but I like it most for shrugs and OHP's (yes, OHP's).
 
OHP's make sense. As for trap bar dl's....don't be a gayblade.
 
I do regular deads too, trapbar deads are just supplemental. Man, your like S&P's abusive uncle.
 
S&P needs somebody to kick the brute strength schtick. That somebody is me.
 
Trap bar deadlifts are a great exercise. I don't think they should be done to the exclusion of straight bar deadlifts though, as the trap bar doesn't give the lower back as much work. It was invented by Al Gerard, as a way for him to train the muscles involved in the deadlift while sparing his injured back because it places the center of gravity right through your body as apposed to being out in front of you. Close to a contest of course he would practice with a straight bar. It involves the quads a bit more than regular deadlifts. It is essentially a partial squat with the weight in your hands. If I could only do one lower body exercise though, I would do trap bar deadlifts(or any paralell grip deadlift), as they seem to be a mixture of the squat and deadlift and works more muscle than either of them alone.
 
TBDl can be useful at times, espeically with people who can't squat due to horrible shoulder flexibility and mobility..

Tho I consider the TBDL more of a band-aid than remedy
 
What I have against the trap bar it is often used by glassbax to get around real pulling. As part of a conjugate cycle, it's a fine tool, otherwise it's a nerdy ass hit punk tool.
 
I really don't know. It's not gonna be a proper tool to train for normal farmers, although better than nothing.

Size could be a problem. Although most folks I see do really well on the loaded walking events take very short, quick steps so maybe it'd fly.

I'd be scared that if you drop it the momentum means the back bar comes scything into the back of your ankle, I've seen similar frames used for that type of event (used a large wooden rectangular frame at the Arnold classic a few years back) but they were relatively long.

you would lose most of the grip training as it cant roll out of your hands like a dumbell, therefore it would be significantly easier.
