1 - Ben Rothwell vs Junior Dos Santos
Super huge fight right now in the Heavyweight division. This is the perfect fight for both men really, If JDS can get it done, he just took out a guy with tons of momentum and he would likely only be 1 or 2 fights away from title contention. And of course if Rothwell wins, he would have a victory over a former champ and a big name. Would undoubtably be Rothwell's bigest win of his career and put him right there for a title shot. Stylistically it couldn't be more interesting. Rothwell is a super durable guy going up against a true knockout artist in Junior. And if I had to guess, I believe this fight will be a stand up bout. Rothwell isn't the most technical striker, but he's very tricky and crafty. Really it's anyone's guess as to who could get ko'd in this one, but I'm leaning toward JDS. I think speed and technique on the feet will play a factor, and JDS will get the finish eventually. As I said though Big Ben is a very tricky fighter, and one of the most experienced HW's in the entire game. He is very good at making guys to comfortable and taking advantage. But as Junior said at media day, we cannot forget who Junior Dos Santos is. He can do amazing things in the octagon. And I personally will never doubt that.
2 - Gabriel Gonzaga vs Derrick Lewis
Another very important fight for both men. Lewis each time we see him is starting to look like a HW anyone would have a hard time with. And Gonzaga is a big name in the division, so a win over him for The Black Beast would absolutely be huge, and would no doubt propel him into a a big fight. Gonzaga is a very inconsistent fighter, and I think with the co main slot this Sunday, he needs to go out and get a definitive win and prove he is here for a while. In a way I look at this as almost a last chance for Gabriel to prove he's an elite HW. If he loses I wouldn't expect to see him in a main or co main slot ever again and would likely be back to the prelims. Napao has a lot to prove in this fight. Obviously another big clash of styles here. Although both men have huge power, neither are the most technical. Gonzaga is a very dangerous ground technician, and I believe that is what Lewis has to worry about most here. Lewis seems to finish most of his fights with ground n pound, but with Gonzaga's ground game I believe it would be smart to avoid the ground game and his usual game plan of splattering dudes heads on the mat and try to keep this one on the feet. Which I believe he can. Gabriel is either a very fast starter or never really gets going at all, there really isn't much of an in between. All and all I believe Lewis will eventually catch him in the 1st. But this is a true pick em fight in my opinion.
3 - Nicholas Dalby vs Zak Cummings
This should be an awesome scrap. 2 very well rounded and just simply scrappy dudes. Cannot wait for this fight.
4 - Ian Entwistle vs Alejandro Perez
I don't know a ton about Perez but he looks like a decent fighter. I'm mainly excited for this one because of the return Ian Entwistle. Very, very dangerous on the ground. Has Palhares like leg locks. Also been a very long time since he's fought so it will be interesting to see if he's improved at all.
5 - Francis Ngannou vs Curtis Blaydes
I've never seen Blaydes fight, but I'm hearing awesome things about him, and he sounds like a very promising and exciting addition to the division. As we've all already seen, Ngannou is just that coming off that brutal KO victory last December. This seems like it will be a very explosive contest.
This Sunday's card is filled with fun fights. Should be a good show no doubt. What 5 fights taking place this Sunday are you stoked for the most?
