That wouldn't be a bad idea. Ilia, Holloway and likely Ortega are all out of the division so Featherweight could use some more marquee names. Depending on the day I wouldn't mind watching a fight between O'Malley vs. Rodriguez or Emmett.

If O'Malley loses & Patchy Mix wins this weekend I can see Mix getting fast tracked to a title shot.

UFC will be desperate to have someone dethrone Merab, also Jones is currently the only champion from the US so they would be happy to have another American champ soon too.

I think he moves to 145 regardless. Even if he wins against Merab.

Better to cash in and move to 145 for a title shot instead of losing a 2nd time to Merab (in the trilogy fight). Instead the narrative is he got that loss to merab back and went on to be double champ.

Then hang out at 145 for a year or two and bulk up for 155.

O'Malley has the frame for 155 so 3 more years to work on his TDD and wrasling
