What’s more important? Height or reach?

Cowboy isnt a legitimately 6'1. I thought we learned never to rely on UFC's height listing as legitimate

Cowboy is 5'11 just like Ferguson. Nate is only 6'0 and u can clearly see he's taller then Cowboy even when he's looking down. You'll see during the face offs Tony and Cowboy are same height. View attachment 583399 View attachment 583401
Cerrone is measuring himself with cowboy boots on, or the hat.

Stance is probably more important than actual reach for how long a guy fights. The more squared up you are, the less length you'll be able to use. That's why karate type guys that stand sideways always seem to cover so much ground. All of it is useless though if they don't have a jab or kick to keep guys at range.

Remember when BJ Penn came in at a staggering 6' for the TUF 19 finale?

I'd take reach but if you don't fight a certain way it'll work against you.

It's not so simple.

If you have a "shorter reach" but the other guys head is at your shoulder level, you will likely still have the reach advantage because a to b isn't diagonal for you but is for your opponent.

You need reach to get to the guys with height but height is necessary to avoid that reach.
Always glad to help!

Ok, the true is... it doesn't matter if you are taller or have a reach advantage if you can't use it, capitalize it.
Once more, styles make matches and abilities rise the chance to get the W.
Look at DC or Tyson, they didn't have the biggest reach, nor were they bigger... but they have the style and the abilities to counter bigger fighter with reach advantage.

So, being bigger is very good, having a reach advantage is also very good... but if your opponent can counter this... it does not matter.

Stefan Struve is the perfect example of someone who has never learned to use his height/reach advantage. Cowboy is excellent at it. He's hell on wheels against smaller guys because of it. He kept Al at range and teed off on him. Against guys his own size with reach as good or better, Cowboy often wilts.

Height for punching if there is a significant height difference.
It takes a lot off your punches to punch upward.

But if two men are reasonable close in height reach is more important.

All the people you listed are pretty close to each other in height.

What does the data of this future research means for 5'2 MW Deron Winn?

It's a lot easier to generate power with hooks and uppercuts with shorter arms. Also inside fighting and gnp is better if you have shorter arms. Both have advantages

Which is more important in striking? Max

Holloway is usually taller than his opponent but when he fought Poirier he was giving up 3 inches of reach
Cody is an inch and a half taller than TJ but gives that up in reach
Tony will have 3.5 inches of reach on Cowboy but will be 2 inches shorter

What's more important striking or grappling?
DC just ragdolls people but also have KO power.
Lesnar is just a jacked white boy but also have KO power.
Khabib is a Grappler and is undefeated.
GSP one of the most dominant fighter is also a grappler who likes to ground n pound

Seems like all the dominant champs have a grappling background who learned striking later on. What do you guys tihnk?

Height adds more to usable reach than reach does.

Someone who's an inch taller can lean in and out of range. This does more for "reach" than an extra inch of overall arm length, which is actually only 1/2 inch of extra reach.

You mention GSP but he was a striker that learned grappling later on.
