Is it a better career choice to be the top dog in Bellator or move to UFC and be middle of the pack?

Financially probably Bellator. But in terms of esteem, Bellator top dog is below mid-level UFC.

Most people I know that watch MMA as a casual fan don't know ANYBODY in Bellator that didn't fight in the UFC first. Bellator is a "legends" organization that thrives on past UFC or PRIDE stars to get viewers. That said, being a middle of the pack fighter with UFC is better than a Bellator star.

Most casual fans don’t know mid-level UFC fighters either. So if you’re not gonna be known, might as well get paid more as a top dog in Bellator than as a mid level UFC fighter.

Top dog in Bellator then sign a lucrative high priced contract with the UFC after a lengthy winning streak.
